    That's Just Prior Being Prior

Must be nice to get paid to be injured. Sad thing is, I have a feeling this will continue for years with several other teams being seduced by what could be...

Padres place Prior on 60-day DL

Peoria, AZ (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres made a flurry of roster moves on Wednesday, including placing pitchers Mark Prior and Clay Hensley on the disabled list.

The oft-injured Prior, who signed a one-year, $1 million dollar deal with the Padres this offseason, is still recovering from shoulder surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2007 season and was placed on the 60-day DL.

The flame-throwing Prior is not expected to pitch until June at the earliest.

Since you're from Chicago, I can certainly see your anger towards Prior, but for $1M, I think it's a worthwhile gamble for SD. Prior needed a change of scenery as much as Chicago needed to get rid of him.

If he gives them a few quality starts down the stretch, the move pays for itself.

I'm not surprised, since he was going to available to at least the all-star, from all the report I read/heard in the off season.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

We knew he would not be ready for the first 2 months of the season, nothing to see here... move along.

Let's talk about this in about 3 months and see what's going on.

The only change of scenery he needed was from throwing simulated games with a towel, to real ones with a baseball in his hand.

I'm not bitter, I think it's funny as hell. I was bitter 3-4 years ago. I was glad to see him go. We've moved on. I will enjoy the comedy no matter what team he's on.

Looks like he will miss our road trip to the Cubs this year. May 12th - 15th. Hopefully he will be ready when the Cubs come here June 2nd through the 4th.

That ought to be an interesting series, wonder if there are any hard feelings from last years brawl, and of course we now have Barrett another fan favorite of the cubbies

Um, wasn't it common knowledge that this guy would't be ready for the beginning of the season? I think the Padres already knew that when they signed him. Neeless to say, if he flames out, no harm done we have a bunch of crappy 5th starters waiting in line for that spot, if he does well, more power to us.

But yeah, I'd be pissed off at a player who spent his whole career injured and handcuffing a franchise... we had many of those here in San Diego before someone knocked some sense into KT.

1 million dollars is hardly handcuffing a franchise. This is like buying a $5 scratch lotto card hoping to win millions. Even if san diego lets him go, someone else will pick him up at a low price in hopes he turns it around somehow.

Wow. I hope he returns to his old (by old I mean when he was young and had all those strikeouts) form before he retires.

He will more than likely not be ready in June. There will be some some sort of setback or something along those lines and he will shut it down for the season.

If he does happen to come back, he will either.

                      A. Not make it to the big club because he can't top 85 in his rehab starts or....

                      B. Get shelled in his first few starts with Padres. After which the Padres will shut him down citing some sort of injury, he then will go have some more surgery in the off season and the process will start over again.

I think if he doesn't make it with the Pads, he might be done. Anyone agree?

According WGN, he pitched to live hiters for the first time in a year, today.

                          Wonder how it went?

                          Edit :
"he will not be eligible to return to the Major Leagues until mid-May, which is perfectly fine with the Padres and Prior, who will be allowed to go at his own pace as he moves ahead with his rehabilitation."

He'll never start more than 5 games in a season for the rest of his career.

Time to revisit. And I'm stunned!

                              Prior Update

Prior's anterior capsule was torn away from the humerus, the bone in the upper arm. Team physicians Heinz Hoenecke and Jan Fronek performed the surgery and said the second injury is normally associated with traumatic events like a fall.

To call it a setback would be an understatement. Prior was already on a program to rehab the shoulder from arthroscopic surgery he had 13 months ago. The Padres had signed him to a $1 million contract in the hopes he could join the rotation by mid-year.

                              So...who signs him next year?
