Pretty neat story involving a fan and Brandon Phillips.

Very cool. Love hearing stories like that. Brandon is a fan favorite here in Cincy. He's become the face of the franchise heading into the future for this team. He's an easy guy to root for.

For some reason I always thought he would be a cocky arrogant guy. I always liked him as a baseball player but he played with a little swagger that led me to believe that. It's good to hear that he is a quality guy, and I'm gald he's finally got a home in Cincy.

Why did the Indians choose Ramon Vasquez over Phillips?

            Good read.

yeah thats a great question i thought i had read that some of the coaches weren`t real big fans of Brandon, and i don`t think Wedge ever cared for him to much. I know Shapiro regrets it and i think that is why Marte made the club this spring . still wish he would have held on to Brandon a little longer and i wouldn`t mind having Guthrie still too. oh well i still think Shapiro has done a great job of putting a team together.

indeed...unfortunately, Marte has shown nothing like what Phillips showed that year we let him go. Wedge will always choose Vets over the unproven Rookie. See Dellucci over Ben Fran.

Yeah Ben hit really well this spring too, i wish Wedge wouldnt show so much favoritism towards the Vets, it took him forever to take Nixon out of the lineup last year

He was when he was breaking into the league with the Indians but he got a big wake-up call when they got rid of him. I've read how he's said how he thought he had it all figured out early on and got a dose of reality when the Tribe dropped him. He's really taken advantage of the opportunity the Reds have given him. To be honest, I was a little surprised by the story because when that started he was playing in the Indians organization when he was still cocky. Good to see that my perception I had of him back then wasn't 100% accurate. Since he joined the Reds, he's been nothing but classy.

When the Indians dropped him, he was having an amazing spring. He was beating the tar out of Ramon Vasquez for the UIF spot on the club. They decided to go with the vet and not the rook.

Brandon made the turn and was having a great spring, and the Indians flubbed it up. It's nothing new for that franchise.
