And what happens to the balls that get removed from the game? IE: you see a pitcher throw a brand new ball in the dirt, the catcher gets a new one and the ump throws it to the home dugout (hope it doesn't hit the floor!). Do they just clean it up and put it back in, or what? Hard to imagine they don't reuse the ball just because it got tossed in the dirt one time. If not, does it get used for batting practice or just thrown away?

Do Ya Ever Wonder......
....how disgusting the floor of a major league dugout must be? Every time they show the players they are spitting on the floor...tobacco juice, sunflower seeds, etc. They must have to bring in a pressure washer after every game to expunge that filth.

Re: Do Ya Ever Wonder......
Baseballs go through a little routine to be game-ready. I was under the assumption that balls that hit the dirt and are taken out of play are put through the process again to be game-ready if needed.
If the baseball is scuffed or damaged then it's obviously not going back in to the field. Not sure what happens to those balls but I doubt they just trash them. I would hope that either the home team and/or MLB have some kind of system in place to ensure those balls are used somehow."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

And yeah Bahnzo dugout floors are nasty they probably gotta nuke those things after the games are over. If I was a player, I sure as hell wouldn't want to get a bunch of tobacco and seeds and whatever else is down there all over my cleats.Lux y VeritasComment

What's the process for the balls? I did a few searches and didn't come up with anything. Would be interesting to know what they do to prep balls for the game.Steam: BahnzoComment

Besides I'm weird about my cleats. I don't care about the shoe itself but I want my cleats and the bottom of them to be in pristine condition when before I start a game. Given that's for softball and flag football, but still I couldn't stand the thought of getting my cleats all nasty before taking the field. Maybe I'm just weird that way.Lux y VeritasComment
