Review inconsistencies
WSB got at least 6 pages worth of review at ign.com, while asb got 2 pages. After reading all of the praise laid on WSB, I checked out the ASB review again. I find it odd that a reviewer would say that the engine is piss poor and hasn't changed enough, yet a different reviewer would highlight how WSB's engine is basically the same, but that's a good thing. I didn't see any mention of assisted fielding, how close the hitting is to zone based, or is it just easy based, I didn't read how ASB improved their franchise model with all of the rules and budget restrictions. ASB is getting the shaft this year, I ended up with WSB last year as my baseball game, but grew tired of mashing buttons trying to execute double plays, it appears to my jaded eye that this year's WSB is merely last year's version, just polished and finished (minus player models) whereas ASB 2004 is like the special edition dvd of ASB 2003, remastered, with tons of extras. Oh well, just ranting about the lack of consistency in ign's reviews.Tags: None -
Re: Review inconsistencies
driddy,
Good call... I agree 100% about the inconsistent coverage at IGN. IMO, in my limited experience with ASB, the developers have at least addressed a lot of the problems with last year's game. Is it perfect? No, but it's improved, and that should've been covered. Plus, they have added tons of extra stuff this year, which I find very cool...

Re: Review inconsistencies
As we all said bfore that review was st8 BS. He made it seem like he did'nt even like the game to begin with. Everything he touched on was'nt serious enough to have a low score. I personally dont think he spent enough time with the game. Then he said thier fav was a pick-up game. WTF.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment

Re: Review inconsistencies
Seems to me like ASB is very much appreciated by the gamers this year, but that it's getting the shaft from reviewers across the board. Wonder why that is. Doesn't seem to me, at least on the surface, that any of the other games did as much to improve their overall product as ASB did this year. Guess reviewers look at the graphics and think, well they look the same as last year, so therefore it's a bad game. I don't know if I've read a single ASB review that mentions hot/cold zones, pitch histories, awesome face maps or anything else that makes the game so great.Comment

Re: Review inconsistencies
I will agree the IGN review didn't give enough info on what was new, but you have to look at yourself and understand where you are coming from with ASB:
ASB was released far earlier than the other games, so aside from High Heat, it's probably the only other game you've played this year. So really you guys are simply comparing ASB to High Heat and most of the guys here seem to enjoy the franchise mode and fancy audio/video stuff which is naturally going to make you favor ASB.
I'm just saying it's no wonder so many players are appreciating ASB. My guess is that the reviewers feel differently because they've been tinkering with the new WSB and MVP as well. You guys might not like either one of those games when they come out but I'm thinking a great number of you will.

Re: Review inconsistencies
Well, that might be part of it, but what does that have to do with the fact that WSB gets 6 pages of "coverage," and ASB, which is arguably the deeper game, gets only 2 pages of "coverage."
I'm not as concerned about a comparison between games as I am about in-depth coverage for the game that is the subject of the review! Review the games equally, and I'll make my own comparisons regarding the game that's right for me.
