    Player rating system

I am here to ask this for another poster from baseballsimcentral in the Allstar forum. He had this question which i have answered there but thought maybe someone
could add to it for him here. Also is there a startegy guide or something that gives more info then the Manual somehwere ? Thanks

    this is from CleveCuby -

As a converted HHeater, This game is really winning me over. At first I wasn't sure, Didn't like the low scoring games, but the features are incredible.

I am even learning to play arcade style but i just cant grasp the running of the bases. I am Mixing my season with a little Sim, MO, Arcade, and just watching a few. Which brings me to question one. I use assist on my fielding until I learn.. It is supposed to take you towards the ball and the after you catch it you are supposed to be able to throw the ball any where you choose.. But 90% of the time, It just does what it wants. I have tried everything, It lets me take over after the play is over.. then it lets me throw the ball where I want.

My greatest love of HH was the Minor leagues, There is nothing that I love more than developing players, watching them grow.

As deep as the franchise mode is in this game I just don't understand the A through D ratings.. In scouting all teams, Most of the LOW minors players are all rated D.. They don't change during the season.

I guess what I’m saying, is how would you ever know who and when to bring someone up if they are all rated D. They are all the same.

If you have 8 minors and they all have a D rating, what would it matter whom you brought up. What makes one d rated player different than any other. ?

This also works for trades or free agents. Why would you ever sign a guy with a C, if there is one with a B.. If you want the best team, you simply go after the players with the highest ratings. This kind of takes the whole logic out of trading, signing free agents, or bring up minor leaguers.

For example, You offer a 2b B rated player for a trade, Why would you trade him for a 2b C or D rated player. Or if the CPU offers you a young rookie.. but he is a D- player and there are 6 of those being offered. Why would it matter which one you picked. there all D- and if the Minors don't accumulate stats, there would be no way of knowing which one was better.

It just seems to me, if you have a C player in the HM, and a D player in the majors. You send the D down and bring the C up. Simple logic. Just always have the highest rated players you can get.

I cant believe the game can have this much depth, but then do something like this that completely ruins the whole concept of it.

Is there something I am not understanding here. ? Isn't it simple. A is better than B and so on.. I just don't get it.

Can anyone shed some light on this.. Don't tell me all this great franchise stuff simply boils down to pick A rated player over B...

    Thanks Giants..

I already posted it here. Didn't get any response.. It's kind of funny, Didn't get any response from an ASB board, but several from one that isn't..

I figured if anyone would know, it would be the ASB vets that hang around here.. Go figure..

Everyone must be to busy playing the darn game.. it sure has that effect on ya.

The more I learn, the better I like it.

what exactly is your question? After reading that novel, I can't figure out your question. I'll answer it if you can plainly ask it.

Okay, after studying your post a little harder, I think I can shed some light on this. Think like a GM. What do you want to do with your team? First of all, there won't be a amatuer draft until June, thats when you get your first set of real prospects in. I doubt very seriously that you want to ever bring a guy from the low minors up to your 25 man roster....those guys are going to be growing and learning, keep them down there and at the end of the season, let the progression dictate if you move them to your AAA team or give them another year in A. Now then, lets say you had a guy on your 25 man roster that was 28 years old and was a C rated player. Also, on the AAA roster, you have a C+ rated guy but he's 35. Do you really want to stunt the younger players growth and development to get a player thats a little better but much older? The older player may be better short term, but you may need to think about long term. Remember, set goals for yourself...are you really a contender this year? If no, then try some younger guys that may get better by playing in the big leagues! I've got a couple C+ guys in my AAA team, but those guys are in their middle 30's to late 30's (mostly RP) and they would only help me if a guy got hurt and I needed a replacement for awhile or through the rest of the season. Currently, I'm the Rangers, and I'm thinking about the future as I start my franchise, so I'm looking to get a few young guys involved, and trade some veterans at the deadline for some more young prospects and go from there. You may decide that you can win now, so bring the best guys that fit your team up. But really, look at the scouting report too. C and C+ aren't that far apart. It could be that the C player does something better than the C+ player, and you need that part in your game, for example speed. The C+ player may not have speed, and while he's a better hitter, you may need someone that can pinch run for you, and be a defensive replacement late in games to give you some extra speed. Then maybe the C rated player is a better fit. Now if you're comparing C- to B+...duh, probably want the B+ guy. Use common sense, play the game, there is player progression at the end of the year, move guys up and down how you think they best fit YOUR plans for now and the future.
