    Cliff freakin' Lee

What the HELL has gotten into Cliff Lee this year!?

    His numbers thus far:

4-0 with a 0.28 ERA and 0.41 WHIP in 31.2 IP. He has only given up 11 hits thus far while striking out 29 and walking just 2 batters.

I know that is a relatively small sample size, but compared to the way he pitched last year this is insane.

And Lee had to win his spot in the Indians rotation out of spring trining which makes what he is doing that much more impressive.

On BBTN last night they mentioned that Lee is off to the best start of any starting pitcher thru 4 starts in the last 20 years. His 0.28 ERA is the lowest at this point since Tim Wakefield had a 0.54 ERA thru 4 starts in 1995.

Not sure if Lee can keep this going for the whole season (the winning, the ERA will be impossible to keep this low all season), but he could be this year's Fausto Carmona for the tribe.

He's faced Oakland twice, KC once, and Minnesota. All teams who are either at the bottom of the league in BA or OBP. When he starts facing real lineups, he's going to fall back to earth.

But still what he's doing no matter who he's facing is pretty unthinkable.

He'll come back to Earth eventually. Just as C.C. should go back to his normal self. But it sure is fun to watch Lee.

I thought Lee's 2007 was a fluke, however possible that is. He was too good in 2006 to turn into such a terrible pitcher overnight.

That said, I wasn't expecting anything close to this.

He's a good pitcher. This good? No. But, really, people should expect 15+ wins and a high 3 ERA every season from him.

He shouldn't have still been in the game tonight when he gave up that homer. Why did Wedge send him out to pitch the seventh with an eight run lead and his pitch count above 90? Great managing...

Anyway, he still got the win and he still has a sub 1.00 ERA.

Probably because he was pitching extremely well and a starter is supposed to go 9 innings. Why waste the pen when you have such a big lead in a game?

                      Ugh!

Lee pitched nine shutout innings tonight just to get a no decision. This offense is just pathetic right now.

Nevertheless, Lee's ERA has now dropped to a ridiculous 0.67 on the year. Unreal.

That's crazy. I keep waiting for the "well he fell on his face tonight" post and it just isn't coming.

I just looked it up and it has never happened. Closest thing was Gaylord Perry in '72 on the 5th place Indians in the AL East. The Indians had the 3rd worst record in the league.

Uhm...in that same year Carlton won the Cy Young for the Phils and they came in last in the NL East with 59 wins. Carlton won 27 games that year...crazy since his team only won 59.
