    David Wright=Chase Utley

If you have never visited Baseball Reference.com I highly suggest you do so, not only can you see stats galore you can even find out what bat your favorite player uses!
Messing around I decided to post an interesting comparison that I decided to look up, I chose 10 random players and this is what I found:
(overall stats compare to)(current age compares to
David Wright: Chase Utley- Dick Allen
Ryan Howard: Prince Fielder- Norm Cash
Ken Griffey Jr: Sammy Sosa- Frank Robinson
Derek Jeter: Barry Larkin- Roberto Alomar
Gary Sheffield: Fred McGriff- Fred McGriff
Chipper Jones: Larry Walker- Gary Sheffield
Jose Reyes: Mark Ellis- Fred Carroll
Manny Ramirez: Larry Walker- Ken Griffey Jr.
Rickey Henderson: Craig Biggio- Rick Manning
Ichiro Suzuki: Ralph Garr- Ralph Garr

I just figured some of you baseball junkies (like myself) may find this interesting and this could start a agree/disagree thread. If you happen to go to the site feel free to post anymore, if you want me to do it for you post some names and I'll get to it.

Is the "current age" what they play out his stats to be like?

NO, it's who that player most compares to at his current age.

David Wright is great and everything, but he is not the gritty balls out player that Chase is.

Chase leans into inside pitches and "takes one for the team"...evident by 25 HBPs last yr.

Their stats might look similar in the box scores or lifetime, but I'd take Chase over David any day of the week and I grew up in the same hometown of David Wright.

how about that one game against the Mets? Yikes..

To be honest, there is one thing I look at - it's not hit by pitches.. Put a runner on second, one run down and two outs in the 9th. It seems that Utley will get that run in with certainty, with Wright it's a hit or miss.. Stats are similar, but it's really who comes through in the clutch more.. (Case in point- see A-Rod). Believe me, I would love if Chase was a Met right now

Yea...Chase is about as clutch as they come. How about that game against the Mets at Shea last month where he had the where w/ all to angle his run to second allowing Delgado's throw to 2nd to hit him in the back thus breaking up a double play...It helped too that Reyes gave a poor target to Delgado, but that kinda awareness and play by Chase is exactly why he is my fav player in the MLB.

Doesn't take position, defense, era, or league quality into consideration.

Yup -that really was heads up..

Pretty cool though how they come up with this stuff.. They also have something similar in the Baseball Prospectus, where they compare the players' stats to others

Clearly Utley's grit makes him the superior player, tell BR.com to stick that in its spreadsheet and smoke it.

What about your personal favorite David Eckstein's grit and hard work?

I even heard Willie Bloomquist blinded a 3 year old with his 'aura' of grit. True story.
