Isn't it a shame EA keeps deleting features in games

Does anybody remember Triple Play '97 for PSX(the one with Brian Jordan on the cover)? That was arguably the best baseball game of all time. The funny thing is you could play in the behind the pitcher view back then. I never did it b/c it was a little tougher when batting. And if my memory serves me correctly not only could you play this way but you could set it based on offense and defense. Meaning that if you wanted to pitch on behind the pitcher, you could; and then when you came up to bat it would change back over to behind the batter. Now EA takes this feature out for several years and decides to call it new. Not to mention that game had some of the best commentary ever on it. Buck Martinez had a different preview for each of your starting pitchers and not just a generic line for each one. Not to mention the fact that it had all the alternate jerseys on there as well. MAny of these "new" features EA adds were just features they've deleted over the years.

This game was also very fun. Not very easy to blow it out b/c it wasnt a home run fest. You had to use strategy to win almost every game. Not only that but the fielding was great as well. All I want from EA is a game that was at least as fun as this one. I hope I'm not dissapointed tommorrow when I get the game.

Did anybody else have Triple Play '97?

Yes, I had TP '97 and it was one helluva game. I do concur that it is one of, if not the best, baseball games of all time. I still remember being the Cubs and playing the Cards. The game seemed so polished and was always fun to play. I also did the behind the pitcher for pitching and behind the batter for hitting.

I never got another Triple Play game after that year, thankfully.

No Offense, but I wouldn't put Triple Play 97 ahead of Earl Weaver (1 not 2) on PC, Tony LaRussa 1 and 2 (even the Genesis port was decent) PC , Front Page Sports 1998 (I may get the year wrong but it was the second iteration) PC , High Heat 2000 PC, Bases Loaded Nes, World Series (the Genesis incarnations and the Sega Saturn version) and Im sure there are one or 2 other greats from the past. Triple Play 97 hadnt yet fallen into Triple Crap mode of the last few years, but it was never the best at simulating Baseball. I really hope EA has turned that page and decided to develop a top tier game in MVP.

IMHO, my favorite was Hardball 99 for PSX. Man, that game was hot. The graphics were lacking but the game play was great. The stats were so real. I actually got no-hit once by the Marlins. The only thing that wasn't real was I signed Rex Hudler from waivers to replace an injured outfielder, and he finished the season with 43 homeruns. Talk about a career year.

Not to nitpick, but it was Triple Play 98 with Brian Jordan on the cover. 97 was the first one on psx and had Tony Gwynn on the cover.

TP 98 was definitely a really fun game. Me and my buds used to sit around drinking beer and playing the HR derby to see who could have the longest bomb.

That's the only TP I ever liked...98 that is, after that I got MLB a couple times, and finally it was back to WSB.
