Re: Hi, I'm Joe Morgan...
I forgot when this exactly happened but during a Cubs game he said something like the outfielder misplayed the ball there because he couldn't see the wind????????????

Re: Hi, I'm Joe Morgan...
Other commentators that played the game aren't as full of themselves. Some do mention that they played the game and will bring up a story or two but I really haven't heard an announcer denounce another man's belief just because he never played the game.
What makes it worse is that Morgan doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time. I don't even mind as much that he ignores others and their comments. It's more the fact that he sounds like a moron when he does it.
My favorite example of this is his mention of shadows during a baseball game.
Miller was talking about how the creeping shadows over the mound were going to affect the hitters. Morgan trounces on it and states that it doesn't affect hitters at all. "Trust me, I know. I played the game. It doesn't bother the hitters."
A few pitches later the hitter strikes out and during the replay what does Morgan say?
"Look at the shadows across the mound. The hitter couldn't see the ball and that's why he struck out."
My brain almost exploded."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Hi, I'm Joe Morgan...
I can deal with his bizarre comments. I can deal with him saying something completely different than what Miller is talking about.
But, I will not watch a Sunday night game when the Mets are playing. If I have to hear his explanation as to why Jose Reyes is the most electric player in baseball one more time, I'm going to go crazy. I swear, he must have a game long chubby during the Mets' games.Comment

Re: Hi, I'm Joe Morgan...
I heard him say that once in a game where Reyes not only did nothing, but he chose to repeat it as Reyes was in the dugout, drinking gatorade, and basically scratching his groin.
If you've read Moneyball, you realize how outdated this idiot is, how irrelevant or straight up incorrect MOST of his analysis can be, and how (per Joe) there will never be another Big Red Machine.

Re: Hi, I'm Joe Morgan...
What you guys are describing is the same cow manure every baseball commentator pulls out of their rear. There is no reason for anyone to single out Joe Morgan for it. That's why the mute button is my friend on baseball telecasts.Originally posted by VP Richard M. There are bad announcers but they aren't Joe Morgan."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Stephen A, Al Michaels, Tim Legler, Mark Schelreth, Keyshawn Johnson, Chris Collinsworth.....
THEY ALL DO IT. The baseball idiots are just more annoying because baseball has too much dead air. So they fill it w/the nonsense that creeps up in their heads. That's why I watch baseball w/the mute button. They are all in love w/their own "expertise" & the limited action allows them to climb onto their pulpit.Originally posted by VP Richard M.
