THEY ALL DO IT. The baseball idiots are just more annoying because baseball has too much dead air. So they fill it w/the nonsense that creeps up in their heads. That's why I watch baseball w/the mute button. They are all in love w/their own "expertise" & the limited action allows them to climb onto their pulpit.
It definitley happens on any stage, George Frazier for the Rockies does downplay things Drew Goodman brings up during the game with alot of "No". However it doesnt mean everyone does it, Jeff Huson played IF and does the games occasionally but he's extremely nice

I can't claim to hear every commentator in sports. My point is what Joe Morgan does is not unique to him. So there is no reason to single him out. If anyone is going to criticize him, they need to get equally emotional about every other dweeb out there. If Morgan is uppity, McCarver can't be profound.

My post was in agreement to you that its not just Morgan who does it, especially in baseball.

Morgan is the worst by far.

I think most agree that Tim McCarver is terrible though so its not like he's getting a pass.

Not all are that bad though.

A good example is Jim Kaat, he announced for the Yankees before, and I think is announcing for someone now. He played the game, but didn't act like he was above everyone else, and he made a lot of really good points. And he had plenty of opportunity to act arrogant and like a know it all since he was sitting next to Michael Kay

I actually love ESPN's baseball department more than any other. Morgan doesn't bother me one bit. They would be even better if they didn't fire Reynolds for some bogus reason.

Linda Cohen = reason Reynolds was fired right? Every year I like ESPN less and less.

Thought this was worthy of digging up the Joe Morgan is ******** thread.

Lee (NYC): Joe, thanks for taking my question. I am a Yankee fan but I have always been a huge Willie Randolph fan. I feel that Willie Randolph has nothing to do with the mess the Mets are in. Shouldn't Omar Minaya take most of the blame? He put this team together.

Joe Morgan: He has to take his share of the blame for putting the team together, but the manager usually takes the blame first. If Willie is fired, the focus will go to the GM. If he stays, the focus will stay on him. But it would be that way in other cities too. The Mariners are way under .500, for instance, but no one is criticizing the GM, they're looking at the manager.

BTW...that chat took place after Bavasi was fired, but before McLaren was fired.

I caught that too, classic Morgan. It baffles me that ESPN continues to have this guy do weekly "chats" when he watches one game a week. He makes it painfully obvious on a continual basis that he doesn't have the slightest clue what is going on around the league.

                      Re: Hi, I'm Joe Morgan...

I amazes me how little of baseball he actually watches. He gets questions from various fans and they'll ask about a certain player. If he hasn't covered that player's game this year, he'll say, "I haven't seen him play this year so I can't really say" or something like that.

In order for him to watch (or listen to) a game/player, he actually has to be there covering the game? Wow. Part of me expects a HOF player to actually enjoy the game enough to watch a game on their own. Hey, I don't know what other people do with their lives. Maybe some people are just busy. But, for a HOF player, that actually appears on television to give insight into the sport and cover live games, to not watch any other games is just amazing.
