    How 'bout those Reds!!!!

The offense is pretty weak (some had career years last year..not mentioning any names), but the pitching is good. And, they seem to do the "small things" this year. Not that I think that Cincinnati is playoff calibre or anything, but the NL Central race is FAR from over.

You do know that the Reds are 2 games below 500, right?

As long as you know that the Cubs haven't won a World Series in one hundred years.

      I'm sorry, that was unnecessary.

The Reds were always weak in pitching, and their ballpark does not help them one bit (anyone that saw Friday's game against Cleveland and cheap home runs like Peralta's would know what I'm talking about), but there are some nice new arms there, like Volquez. He's really proving himself to be a good young pitcher, but they need more. Griffey needs three more home runs, and they can get rid of him. Even Adam Dunn can get you a nice sinker baller (Derek Lowe, anyone?). I'm glad they got Dusty Baker, but they're still a long way from playoff contention.

At least the Reds have a helluva pitcher in that Voquez (sp) guy. It's amazing this was the first time he allowed more then a run in something like 8 games!

As a matter of fact, someone mentioned that to me a couple of days ago. I just liked them cause they had vines on the wall.

Baker's done a fantastic job of not making himself look foolish so far this year.

It's turned out that way so far but there were a lot of unhappy folks (me included) about the fact they traded Hamilton away. I said when the deal was done that Josh would be an all-star within two years, if he stays healthy. I had no idea that BOTH of them might be in the game THIS year. Just hope Volquez can keep it up.

I'm actually happy for the Reds. They swept the Indians so my Sox could take the AL central lead

But in the long run, I don't see them jumping the Cubs. Or the Astros. Or the Cardinals, for that matter

The Reds are on a roll but it will end soon. Volquez is turning out great, but I wish we would have traded Dunn & Griffey for Volquez instead of Hamilton. Harang is the most underrated pitcher in baseball. Baker is a complete idiot. If I worked in one field of work for 40+ years and I was half as dumb as Baker, there would be a 20/20 story about how dumb I was but still working in the same industry. I hope Dunn stays hot so we can get something for him and I hope we trade Griffey today, with or without 600 homeruns....he needs to go.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Please get rid of Patterson.

Probably this week against LA and San Diego. I can probably count on one hand how many successful trips to the west coast they have made since I've been following baseball, which is about 26 years or so. I'll never forget the trip to Oakland during inter-league play a few years back. They were on a roll heading into that series and the A's completely derailed them. It was embarrassing listening to those games. The Reds were never the same the rest of the year after that.

It's really cool to see REAL baseball fans on here at OS ;D I had no idea that so many fans of other teams actually know anything about the Reds. I know that's strange, but that's just me (wink).

Junior NEEDS to go. Even though he did come to the clubhouse as a kid and Daddy was a Red, I have never felt "right" about Junior becoming a Red. "The Kid" is a Mariner! He needs to retire in Seattle. I don't get a chance to watch the games, but from following them on sports forums it sounds like he has nothing left in the tank. While I think that Dunn will finish the season with an average around .260-.275 this could turn really ugly for Junior. Personally I've never seen a star hitter fall off the table so quickly, but Junior is treading thin water.
