Willie Mays Aikens released from prison

Former major league player Willie Mays Aikens was released from federal prison in Jesup, Ga., early Wednesday morning after spending nearly 14 years behind bars.

Aikens, whose case was often cited in the effort to overturn federal sentencing guidelines, was released at 6:55 a.m. ET. He was sentenced in 1994 to more than 20 years for crack cocaine distribution, bribery and gun charges under the mandatory sentencing guidelines then in place.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet," he told ESPN.com. "I feel excited and blessed. It went by quick. I'm coming back to a new world."

Aikens, who played eight big league seasons at first base and DH with the Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays, said he hopes to have a career in baseball, and wants to become a major league scout.

I hope he's ready to live life on the outside sober. Alot of people used his case to change law. He'll be a big disappointment if he gets in trouble again.

This kind of stuff makes me sick. Basically, his "getting out of prison" interview means he will wind up getting a scouting job, a job that many of us would probably want, but won't get. Yet another example how in this wonderful country we call the USA, The Dirty Get The Jobs, The Clean Just Get Dirt.

Just because he wants to be a scout in baseball doesn't mean any team will take him.

Of course, the fact that Aikens is far more knowledgable about what it takes to make the major leagues than we are has nothing to do w/teams being willing to hire him. So we'll ignore that.
