Ha ha...I new people would come to this thread thinking it was a "bash WSB2k3" thread. Actually im praising the game.. IT IS THE BOMB DIGGITY. The reason why I asked WHYYYY is this. Okay..we all know Word Series is the best. MVP isnt that bad, its good but its NOT WSB, All Star and High Heat dont really suck either...but here is my question.....

With WSB and MVP and HH, and All Star bascially being the games people buy and each has thier own loyal following...what the hell is 989 Sports still doing making baseball games?????? I mean who's out there buying MLB2004?? I want to meet them. Its like this...Sega and EA basically have set the standard for sports games. There are just certain things that these companies include in thier sports games now that people dont want to live without....yet someone like 989 Sports wil come along and STILL put out a crappy sports game, half *** done, with NONE or very little of the goodies that are now a STANDARD in the better titles...WHY DO THEY EVEN BOTHER??? It's not really a "bash the other companies" post...I really want to know peoples thoughts on this. For example. We are now so spoiled on games having a franchise mode and anyone with half a brain knows that is a HUGE selling point now for sports tittles...why do some companies STILL leave HUGE things out like that? Things that right off the bat will make someone not want to buy it?? Why do they insist on doing this? Im not saying someone like 989 sports left it out this year..i dont knowif they did or not..but i just mean dont they know that Sega Sports and EA for the most part set the standard now in sports games. So with other companies knowing that (not really talking about HH or ASB), why do they stil insist on pushing out an completely inferrior product??? One would think if you were another company trying to push out a sports title you would do your research and find out why EA and Sega Sports have over 70% of the market share in sports titles. You have games like HH that come out whos graphics CANT compare to WSB or MVP, BUT what they lack in visuals they make up in SOLID SOLID SOLID gameplay, so thats fine...but im just confused as to why other companies out there appear to not even by TRYING to do ANYTHING right in thier games.....I mean someone like 989 sports(and i only use them as a good example) trying to throw thier sports titles into the competition is like a 5-6, 140 lb man entering a battle royal with The Rock, Stone Cold, Brock Lesnar, and Tripple H...why even bother?? You guys thoughts on this???.....

I just used them as an example...but i really do want to know why some companies out there "just dont get it" when it comes to deliering what we want. I mean when you look at the big four (WSB, MVP, HH, and ASB) yes they are all different, but froma basics standpoint they all meet the basic standards of what fans now want in a sports title...how come the rest of the companies out there just dont seem to even bother? why dont they "get it"????

Actually some ppl still do buy 989 games such as Final For, Shootout, Gameday, MLB and that Hockey game of theirs. What it adds is variety, something I'm not complaining about. Their games might add or have something that the big four dont.

Graphic i think you missed my whole point...okay..let me break it down further so people know what im talking about.

Graphics = If you know there are games out there that are getting alot of praise on thier graphics and animation...why develop a game with SUBPAR graphics? Why not try to make yours look better than thiers?

Gameplay=If you know one particualr game by far is being heralded as having the best gameplay then why not next year look at what they did right and try to make yours even better??

Sound - same thing

Features - same thing

I hope that clears things up. Here is another example..do you remember when no sports games had actual real players/rosters on them?? Then after the first couple of companies did that and the PEOPLE said "hell yeah, thats what weve been wanting" it would take some other companies 2 or 3 more tries before they did it too...and by then, people werent even TRYING to buy a game that didnt have real players on it.....thats just an example. Why dont some gaming companies "get it"??? or it takes them years to get to that point and by the time they do, the others have allready taken it even FURTHER. You would thin they would look at the competition whos doing the best overall and take notes. If i had a bar and someone else had a bar across the street from me, and his was always packed withpatrons and mine wasnt, i would be trying to figure out WHY hes got most of the customers and i dont....you feel me?

Yea, I feel you. I dont know. I have never personally brought a 989 game or any third party type of sports game. My guess is for the money.

But I was watching G4TV once and they had the producers of NBA Shootout on there. And they honestly thought they had a contender in their hands. No, they really believe thier were gonna compete aginst EA and Sega.

Simple,

Many kids and parents buy games without researching the games. Some companies need only to have a product on the shelf to sell. They are not concerned with being the best but rather turning a little profit.

Actually, in 989's defense, they are very innovative in concept. The execution is just poor. The idea of having the career mode in Shootout include starting in the NBDL then working your way up to 10 day contract, etc was great. It was just an ugly game. They need to outsource their ideas to more talented developers.
