Why isn't Dan Uggla #2 on the All-Star ballot?

He's hitting nearly .300 with 23HRs and 57 RBI and an OPS of over 1.000... yet Kaz Matsui and Mark DeRosa have way more votes and their offensive numbers pale in comparison.

It can't just be the fact that he plays on one of the smallest-market teams in baseball, can it? If so, that's a crime.

Is there another reason? Perhaps he strikes out too much?

I wouldn't say dumb, more ignorant.

I'd say it's probably this, stupid, yes, can we change it, not likely.

Same reason why Kosuke Fukudome is #2 and the same reason that one year where just about every Astro starter was either #1 or in the Top 5 (or 15) in the voting.

He plays in a small market team, simple as that. Less fans to stuff the ballot.

One feature I noticed on the online ballot that I really liked this year is the ability to compare stats. DOn;t know if has been on there in years past, but it is a good feature.

Of course, it still doesn't overcome blind homerism and stupidity.

Yeah, Uggla definitely deserves to be up there...you could possibly even make a case that he should be ahead of Utley as they appear to be neck-and neck.

Exactly my reasoning for it, plays on a small market team with minimal national coverage
