My BEST game of ASB thus far

My Mariners came into the game with a 17-4 record and just finished off the first game of a three-game set vs Cleveland, defeating the Tribe 5-0.

In game 2 of the series...Joel Pineiro (# 3 starter) started off strong...sitting down the first 9 Cleveland batters. The M's took a 1-0 lead into the 4th before Cleveland got things going. Ellis Burks (Yes, he is still alive) hit a MONSTER shot in the 4th. The ball almost cleared the flag pole in Safeco Field and just missed leaving the Ballpark...it was the most amazing shot I had seen to date. Cleveland led 4-1, but the M's got 2 more and trailed 4-3 as we headed to the 5th.

Things remained the same until the top of the 7th. Bobby Madritcsh came in to face Burks and sent a fastball right into the middle of his back. Both players were ejected after a bench clearing brawl. Cleveland punished Seattle in the 7th. Josh Bard finished the inning off with a Grand Slam and Cleveland lead 11-3. The Mariners were able to get things going in the Bottom half of the 8th inning. Bret Boone hit a 2-run shot. The Mariners added two more and trailed 11-7 after 8 innings of play.

Now to set things up...Shigetoshi Hasegawa didn't clear waivers went the Mariners tried to release him to start the season. Cleveland claimed him and he headed in from the outfield with an 11-7 lead.

Carlos Guillen had had a DISMAL start to the season, batting .140 through 21 games including 1 for his last 15. Guillen leads off with a single. Ichiro comes up next and hits the most impressive HR I have ever seen. Ichiro's shot landed in the Center Field bleacher seats at Safeco Field. I dunno if y'all know Safeco Field but Ichiro just became the FIRST player to ever reach the CF bleachers!!! Griffey Jr. walked on 4 pitches from Hasegawa. Edgar reached on an error. Runners on first and second. John Olerud popped up to SS. Bret Boone flew out to left field. (2 outs) Bob Melvin then chose to pinch-hit for Randy Winn. john Mabry came in and lined one of the pitcher, reaching first. Based loaded. Ben Davis came up next and lined a ball to center, but only one run scored because of a good throw from Matt Lawton. CARLOS GUILLEN came up next...and after his HUGE slump was 4-4 in the game. Still though, I pondered a pinch hitter, but decided that Guillen deserved a shot at glory. Guillen fought off two pitches with a 3-2 count. The payoff pitch to the plate..."Guillen with a shot to left center field...one run scored...the throw to the plate...SAFE...the MARINERS WIN...MY OH MY...CARLOS GUILLEN...THE MARINERS WIN 12-11 in the BOTTOM OF THE NINTH INNING" - Dave Neihaus

MY OH MY!! I love Dave Niehaus, I sure wish he was the play-by-play on ASB. that would be my dream game, to hear:

"...and that ball is BELTED, deep to left..."

I just hate how the announcers are so monotone, when, in real life Dave and Rick and them get pretty frickin excited. Thats what provides an extra shot of adrenaline.

It does look like Bobby M.'s headed to the minors though.

No doubt, one of the greatest lines in Mariners baseball.."and that ball will FLY FLY AWAY!"

Oh and don't forget grandma and her grand salami time. I bet you remember that when Mike Cameron hit the Grand slam vs. NY in 2001 and had 8rbis

My best game in ASB happened when my lead off guy hit 4-4 or somehting like that and had 8 RBI, taking the team lead in that category.

Pitching wise, 2-0 win over Twin's I think...
