Well, I didn't have the full-on testicular torsion. I had a torsed appendis testis. Not quite as bad as testicular torsion, but it took them forever to diagnose. And then I was told that they usually resolve themselves without surgery. Unfortunately, mine didn't, and after about a month of suffering I finally had surgery.

That was in the fall, and it happened again on the other side the following spring. And just my luck, it again didn't work itself out. Luckily, they went the surgical route faster that time and I didn't suffer as long.

Wow... A whole month... That sucks.

I've had hydroceles before, which are basically little water filled cysts that can grow in the sack, causing discomfort. That morning, I felt that familiar discomfort, and I thought, crap, I've got one again. But this time was way worse, evidenced by the sweating and vomiting, and the inability to get comfortable enough to alleviate the pain. I can't imagine going through that for a whole month.

All in all, it wasn't bad... Main problem was using the bathroom; the nuts were so swollen that I couldn't sit on the toilet. Another problem was the medicine; I was given Percocet, which made me really sleepy within 5 minutes of taking it. But then I got side effects of really bad itching in my fingers and toes, and this was resolved by taking Benadryl, which made me sleepy as well.

I'm usually pretty good about stuff like this, but that post just made me squirm like none other.

I think we not only need to lock this thread, but delete the **** out of it.

Why? If anything, it can serve as a sort of public service announcement to the fellas around here, to not ignore any pain they may have in the nether regions.

Exactly. I may break into a cold sweat whenever I hear "testicular torsion" again, but at least I'll know what a big problem it is

I'd heard a little bit about testicular torsion when Felix Pie of the Cubs had it earlier this season, but I never bothered investigating it any further; just sounded like some kinda freak accident. Never woulda guessed that a couple months later I'd have the same thing.

It's one of the few true medical emergencies

If you don't operate, you risk an infarction and the thing swells up like a watermelon from inflammation. Guys, lesson to be learned: don't ignore pain down there.

                      It's awfully hard to ignore.
