I was using the the straight behind the catcher view when batting but felt that too I have played too many games this way so I changed it backed to the default camera ( 1 I think ) so you see a slight angle from each side of the plate. I also turned off the strike zone and boy does this give you a true sensation of really batting...Its a bit more challenging because the pitches can fool you a bit more but it feels very real.
What I love is how EA added the catcher's glove and went further by actually simulating the different pop sounds that the mitt makes behind the plate. There's just something very pleasing about catching nothing but air at some high cheese and hearing that nasty pop in the catcher's mitt from a 95 mph gasser! Great feel.
Plus, that flicking of the wrists in a batter's swing as he brings his bat across the plate on a high swinging miss is perfect!
Also, the way in which runners turn the bases and slow down their momemuntum to head back is finally a good feel. Too many other games have their runners turn 90 degree angles on the rounding of bases. MVP really gives you the sensation these guys are motoring.
I also love the fact that the fielders have to actually drop down their gloves to apply the tag to determine the call.
Also watch a few replays in Slo Mo.....The collision detection for the ball to bat is the best I have ever seen.....you actually see the fluid contact right to point an location on the bat. Very well done.
And the SIM feature is fantastic...When Im not in the mood to play every game of a series.....I just sim up to the 6th or 7nth inning and just HOP into the middle of the game and finish it out...This feature is fantastic.
Sure there's still a bit of that fast over- accentuated over-the-top Triple Play feel lurking in the fielding gameplay engine with almost no correlation to a player's real defensive ratings and limitations, and hopefully this can be toned down to realistically scaled proportions next year, BUT they really captured the Batter/Pitching engine better than any game has to date.....Its totally immersive and still remains most importantly, FUN.
EA has brought this baseball series back from the dead.
