I like it all too, and I agree with that middle round in the Home Run Derby. But my biggest gripe with the HRD is their choice of camera angles and just the fact that it's too damn easy to hit a home run now. I love watching ESPN Classic when they show like the 1997 HRD in Cleveland when a home run was simply spectacular to watch and cheer about.

I suppose there's nothing that we can do about that, but maybe the MC can do a little more about every home run. I honestly don't mind Berman (though I miss Reynolds), and Mike Piazza was fun to see every so often as well, or Jason Giambi. Some representative of the sport, at least. But the camera angle is terrible now. Why don't they show that side view from the seats anymore? It kind of drives me nuts.

Also, there are one too many kids out there. There was this one tall black guy wearing a Marlins hat in the 2005 Home Run Derby at U.S. Cellular Field where I swear he robbed a home run, and the home run as a result didn't count. Get some small kids out there, and laugh as they let the ball hit there face, but not hitting another person.

And I'd rather see the finals as sort of a "shootout". The way that Stark proposed the innings format would be much longer than the current format, so while it's a decent idea, it wouldn't really help his efforts in making it shorter. How about one, three, or five swings, and swap. Or maybe ten swings, but every swing is an out, and you count up your home run numbers, anywhere from 0 to 10.

Berman and his incredibly stale back-back-back-back-back-back-back a couple hundred times is absolutely brutal.

        yeah...berman is awful.

the innings-based HRD would not be as long as you think....you have misunderstood what the article says...each "out" would be an "inning".

I don't like the HRD at all.

Agreed. Berman meet Mute button.. Mute button meet Berman.

Someone needs to invent the special mute button to mute a certain sportscaster and keep the rest of the sound on.

The HRD I can live with/without it..I'll catch part of it probably but not the entire thing
