Is there a way for CPU to control IF/OF positioning?

Is this something you have to change manually each time yourself? In other words, if man on first do I have to tell the computer to go into dp depth/positioning? It seems like in some cases I can see the first baseman playing behind the runner at first and at other times he seems to be holding him on. Anyone else notice this?

I saw the Automatic selection in the defensive positioning menu, but from what you guys are saying it does not seem to work that way? Is it all manually controlled? That would be a pain...

The instructions say that the CPU automatically adjusts for you, but I do it myself because the CPU doesn't know how I'm going to pitch to the batter.
