Confused about sending a guy down

I sent a guy down to the minors and he had to clear waivers first. Montreal ended up picking the guy up. No big deal, it was Mike Bordick (38 years old). Is this how it works everytime you send a guy down???

Heel, you have to check to see how many options (years) your players have. Say for instance, you have a top prospect in the minors. You have to go to the roster analysis screen where you can see how many option years that player has. If he as like 2 options, you can send him up and down in the organization for two years without him having to clear waivers first.

In your case, Mike Bordick is a super veteran so of course he has long been out of options. With a player out of options, he has to clear waivers, before being sent down. So you have to be careful when assigning players because you may lose them when they try to clear waivers! It sucks that I created Mark Teixeira a top Rangers prospect and he has no Options so I couldn't send him down if I wanted to. I know he'd get picked up!

It's pretty deep and complex. Acclaim went all out with this one! I haven't really gotten around to checking out WSB's franchise but I can't imagine it can compair to ASB.

Interesting, do other games have this in them? I will have to pay more attention to that in the future. Thanks.

I don't think so I'm going to check WSB tonite to see if it's franchise is as deep.

I'm probably going to hate myself for saying this....but, I too created Teixeira...I created him as a C+ 3rd Baseman. Obviously he would get claimed if you tried to send him down without options. So what you do is once he's been created, edit him to a D- player, and send him down, no one will claim him as a D- player, then once you have him where you want him, edit him back to the original ratins you created him at. There you have it....I didn't want him on my 25 man roster, so I edited him and sent him to AAA. I'll probably bring him up sometime around July, and I doubt I'll ever send him back down, so I won't have to re edit him. I imagine you could do this to any player you wanted too...but that would be cheating in my opinion. But with Teixeira...I didn't consider it cheating since he is a rookie, he should have options, I just had to work around it.
