Just got my *** handed to me

I just suffered the worst beating I have had in a baseball game in a really long time. I got whupped by the Mariners 15-0 in the 3rd game of my A's franchise.

I couldn't do jack at the plate, as I was being overly aggressive and trying too hard to hit homers and make things happen. Patience is definitely a virtue at the plate in MVP.

The game started out ok, as I struck out 5 through the first 3 innngs with Tim Hudson. I was mixing up my pitches brilliantly, but soon after that the onslaught was on.

The M's kept chipping away, getting a run here and there, while I continued to flail away at everything while at the plate. FYI- Jamie Moyer is pretty nasty in this game. His junk is hard to make solid contact with.

The score was 4-0 going into the top of the 7th inning, when the wheels totally fell off. No matter what pitch I threw, they would spray the ball all over the place. Base hit after base hit after base hit. A lot of them were just bloopers, but they all fell in. Once they had the bases loaded, I swear they must have gotten about 9 or 10 bloop singles in a row, with a couple doubles sprinkled in before and after. I just couldn't buy an out to save my life.

This is also where I saw the dreaded "IGN tag glitch" for the first time. It seems to only be an issue on plays at the plate with the catcher. Earlier in the game, I had hosed a runner at the plate and the tag animation was perfect. I started thinking to myself, "hmmm I don't know what IGN was talking about." Uh uh. The tag bug happened to me 7 times alone in this one inning. Granted, 3 or4 times the runner probably would have been safe anyways, but 7 times is ridiculous, especially for one inning. On every one of the aforementioned bloop hits they got , I had a chance to gun down the runner at the plate. Every time, Ramon Hernandez would field the throw just in front of the plate, get in a "ready to throw animation, and then realize a runner was sneaking in behind him to score, and each time it was too late. There was absolutely nothing I could do to prevent it.

The throws were almost all perfect, too. I would have gunned 3 or 4 of those runners had the bug not been there. I was pretty pissed off by this time.

It is not something that kills the game for me, but it does detract from the fun I was having with the game, and it will be in the back of my mind whenever I play for a while.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this yet, either with the extreme amount of consecutive bloop hits no matter how you pitch or the frequency of the "tag glitch"?

Oh yeah, a word of advice : you have to have somewhat of a plan when you are hitting, or you won't get anything. I think I was trying too much to hit home runs and it came back to bite me in the *** because I couldn't handle anything unless it was pitched right where I was angling the stick.

$%!# happens!!!!! I just lost to the Expos 7-2 and the score was tied 2-2 going into the 8 th inning. You cannot let your guard down when pitching in this game.

why don't you just try tagging the runner at home by yourself?

I haven't had the fiesta of bloop singles in an inning, although bloops seem to be the outcome of nearly all of my pitches to the CPU.

I either pitch a ball outside the strike zone that is taken for a ball 99% of the time, or a strike anywhere in the strike zone that is hit for a bloop. Usually these are shallow fly balls I catch for an out; bloop outs just behind the shortstop or 2B (a very high number of over-the-shoulder SS and 2B catches in this game); or bloop singles. I've yet to surrender a HR, and only a couple balls to the warning track.

Re: the tag-out glitch, 7 in an inning is horrible. It's always at home plate, yes, and it's one of those minor things that drives me crazy enough to probably return MVP for WSB today.

It is impossible to do that, bro. Believe me, I tried too. The only time you may be able to do it is if you have the runner dead by 40 feet or more, but each time it happened to me it was a "bang bang" play, so I didn't have time to move the catcher at all.

It was frustrating to see, because the first time I had a play at the plate (after playing 4 games with none), I gunned the runner down, and the animation and tag was perfect. The out was recorded and there were no problems. All the others, though, had the tag glitch happen. If the damn catcher would just guard the plate instead of stepping a few feet in front of it and waiting for the throw, it would all work fine.

I am not that mad because I have seen it done the right way, so I at least know it is possible to hose someone at the plate. I just wish the proportion of instances where the tag glitch occurs to ones where it is done right was less.

hmmm........ i notice it too every now and then, is it possible that the "tag glitch" only occurs when the OF has thrown the ball full power? (i.e. all the way in the red?)

I don't think so, Mad. A few of the times it happened to me my throw was only about 3/4 of the full meter. I will check again next time I play, though.

My Cards just got 3 hit and lost to the Astros 9-0. I gave up 6 runs in the first 3 innings, and only had 1 hit through 4.
