I couldn't do jack at the plate, as I was being overly aggressive and trying too hard to hit homers and make things happen. Patience is definitely a virtue at the plate in MVP.
The game started out ok, as I struck out 5 through the first 3 innngs with Tim Hudson. I was mixing up my pitches brilliantly, but soon after that the onslaught was on.
The M's kept chipping away, getting a run here and there, while I continued to flail away at everything while at the plate. FYI- Jamie Moyer is pretty nasty in this game. His junk is hard to make solid contact with.
The score was 4-0 going into the top of the 7th inning, when the wheels totally fell off. No matter what pitch I threw, they would spray the ball all over the place. Base hit after base hit after base hit. A lot of them were just bloopers, but they all fell in. Once they had the bases loaded, I swear they must have gotten about 9 or 10 bloop singles in a row, with a couple doubles sprinkled in before and after. I just couldn't buy an out to save my life.
This is also where I saw the dreaded "IGN tag glitch" for the first time. It seems to only be an issue on plays at the plate with the catcher. Earlier in the game, I had hosed a runner at the plate and the tag animation was perfect. I started thinking to myself, "hmmm I don't know what IGN was talking about." Uh uh. The tag bug happened to me 7 times alone in this one inning. Granted, 3 or4 times the runner probably would have been safe anyways, but 7 times is ridiculous, especially for one inning. On every one of the aforementioned bloop hits they got , I had a chance to gun down the runner at the plate. Every time, Ramon Hernandez would field the throw just in front of the plate, get in a "ready to throw animation, and then realize a runner was sneaking in behind him to score, and each time it was too late. There was absolutely nothing I could do to prevent it.
The throws were almost all perfect, too. I would have gunned 3 or 4 of those runners had the bug not been there. I was pretty pissed off by this time.
It is not something that kills the game for me, but it does detract from the fun I was having with the game, and it will be in the back of my mind whenever I play for a while.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this yet, either with the extreme amount of consecutive bloop hits no matter how you pitch or the frequency of the "tag glitch"?
Oh yeah, a word of advice : you have to have somewhat of a plan when you are hitting, or you won't get anything. I think I was trying too much to hit home runs and it came back to bite me in the *** because I couldn't handle anything unless it was pitched right where I was angling the stick.
