    simulation question

After playing or managing all my games so far; I decided I would try simulating some games to get to the amateur draft. I simulated the same next game three times and each time an absolutely ridiculous lineup was used.....guys playing out of position and a batting order that looked like it was drawn out of a hat....Is this typical or am I doing something wrong? Am I correct that you simulate your games from "today's schedule" page.
I guess I don't understand what the point would be of simulating if you never know how a player is going to be used if at all. I know GM's don't make out the day to day lineup; but it's for damn sure they aren't going to sit by and watch guys played out of position when unnecessary and middle of the order hitters batting 2nd.
I am new to gaming and I had a somewhat similar experience with my first video game- NFL2K3....after playing 1 season....I decided to simulate and had problems getting..for example...the number one running back on my depth chart the bulk of the carries. Since I'm not as passionate or knowledgeable about football; I still simulated several seasons with the game because I enjoyed the draft and free agency periods....
As far as baseball goes.....I'm a purist....and less forgiving on those types of lineup flaws....

I notice it happens if you have a guy tired and don't have a legit back up.

I could understand that.....but I give a player a day off as soon as he comes up as tired. I didn't have anybody tired going into that game...and it was more than just one position and spot in the order that was crazy.... so I take it that the "set lineup" function is irrelevant if you are simming?

Raagnar, how silly do the lineups get? Like Sosa hitting second, Bobby Hill clean-up.

I will have to admit, in the games I sim, and it's 4 out of 5 at this point, I make sure to see who's most likely to get a day off and set my line-up each time to try and keep the silly line-ups away. You sort of just get used to it. Ironically, the computer loves to put Tomas Perez into the line-up against my wishes and the guy always comes up big, so go figure.

I did figure this was something they'd of fixed from last season's version. The game should just let you run your players into the ground, and if they get hurt they get hurt. This auto-sub thing is stupid. And the line-ups, you're right, are often-times pathetic.

dce...how do you set your lineup for sim? the lineup it came up with was nowhere near anything I've ever used or how I have it set in the "set lineups"......I tried to get into "play next game"...set the lineup....but I couldn't find anywhere to sim the game from there.....
let's see.....the lineups......Alou was batting second....Sosa was down at the bottom of the order....Lenny Harris was playing 2nd and batting lead off and Troy O'Leary was playing CF.....just not anywhere near logical...and as I said I look at the players health status before everygame and none of them were marked as "tired" or "exhausted".....am I missing some other menu I should be looking at?

Okay, I'm a total geek. I actually look ahead a game, sometimes a whole series, to see the handedness of the pitchers I'm going to face, go to the set-lineup page and set my line-up there before each game. If say, I know I'm facing Zito and Mulder in a couple days, I'll make sure my right-handed hitters have had a day off at some point so the computer doesn't decide to bench them. I wish it wasn't the case, but I've gotten used to it. Since I tend to platoon a lot the game will alter my line-up maybe one in four times...

Perhaps someone knows a better way to combat it, but for now, I just prepare for it... if a crappy pitcher is coming up I might bench my best guy against him just so I don't lose him when I really need him.
