HITTING???

I believe that i read in the interviews on OS where EA talks about hitting the ball where the it is pitched by using the left analog stick. What i mean is that dont try to pull the ball if the pitch is going towards the outside part of the plate because if you try to pull it it will result in a weak grounder. I would like to know if that is true or if i can in deed at least try to pull an outside pitch and get a positive result rather than a weak grounder.

The reason that i am asking this is because i am using the yankees and i know for sure that GIAMBI is a dead pull hitter. I have hit a couple of homers with him but all have been to the opposite field because the pitch was on the outside.

The interview also states that it will be LIKE their real counterparts. If this is true i have not really seen it happen yet.

Please tell me if i am missing something here.

don't try to pull balls on the outside part of the plate, it will result in weak contact, like it should.

but that didnt answer my question.
so are you telling me that i cant pull an outside pitch and get a positive result. that doesnt seem real to me and it doesnt make any sense.
is it because that is how the game is made???

You can't physically pull an outside pitch in real life or this game. Just visualize yourself as a batter and a pitcher throws you an outside pitch. What is the best way to hit it? Would you even try to pull it even if you could? Just trying to make natural contact with the ball would have you hitting it to the opposite field. I'm not a physics major but isn't centrifugal force involved in pulling the ball? I just hit a HR when my brother threw me a low outside pitch in my CLEAR neutral zone. I had my stick aimed UP/RIGHT and timed his curve perfectly. I just learned you can "pre aim" the stick and that it doesn't have to be simultaneously pressed with the "A" button. By "pre aiming" or guessing a pitch will be inside or outside you can attack some of your neutral or cold zones giving you a better chance of a good result.

i may be stupid but i dont understand what so ever. are you telling me that for dead pull hitters like BONDS AND GIAMBI they have never pull outside pitches for homers let a lone basehits.

Operation Sports: Will there be directional hitting?
Brent/Jason: The hitting system is entirely directional. It’s all about reading the ball and sending it back the direction it came from. Batters will also have control over hitting balls high or low based on the situation.

what about the hitting???
BRENT: Batting has also been completely re-designed, again to give users full swing control with their hitters. Gone are the days of chasing cursors around the screen. That is certainly not authentic at all. As the members of our MLB Player’s Council told us, hitting is all about timing, and seeing the pitch and hitting it where it’s pitched. We have built the hitters hot and cold zones right into the batting interface this year. As a hitter, you need to be patient at the plate. Do you chase something that’s out of the strike zone or in your cold zone, or do you wait for the pitcher to make a mistake or throw one in your hot zone? Hitting is about execution as well. Just because the pitcher makes a mistake doesn’t mean it’s an automatic hit - you still have to execute. Full swing control is tied into the left analog stick - up for a fly ball swing, down for a grounder swing, in the middle for a line drive swing, and left and right to pull or spray the ball. As the big league hitters have told us, you have to get your timing right and go with the pitch. If you are trying to pull a pitch that’s thrown on the outside part of the plate or vice versa, the result will likely be a weakly hit ball that will result in an out. However, if you get your timing right and use the left analog stick to hit the ball where you're pitched, you should see good results.

Yes...hitters like Giambi and Bonds will not "pull" a pitch on the outside of the plate. It's impossible to do just based on physics alone.
