    Not impressed with wsb2k3

WSb2k3 has been a flat out letdown for me. I have played 7 games in my franchise and have decided that this game jsut feels too rushed and buggy for me to keep playing. Here are problems I have encountered:

    - it is way too easy to strikeout the CPU batters. I have 90 Ks in my 7 games. Yes, i have variable pitching set to high and no, I am not using the pitching cursor. I also have some of the cpu slider settings janked to make it easier for the cpu to make contact. Doesn't matter. In my alst game I got 13Ks in 7 innings with a pitcher who is rated like high 50s in strikeouts. We're not talking about me having these randy johnson type players to get these high K stats. Last eyar I hardly got any Ks and this year I am getting an avg of 13 a game. Ugh.

-I have had on at least 3 onccasions my infeilders jump for the ball when it was clear they needed to dive since the ball was hti to their side and was a groundball. It seems that Blue Shift shouldn't have made jump & dive use the same button. I would be surprised if others haven't had this problem. Oh and I have have the opposite happen as well...player dives when he needs to jump.

-the fielding is just jerky. I think in their effort to make the fileders react different based on thier skill, they screwed up. Many times I have not been able to move my players right after the ball is hit. This has caused too many CPU hits. In addition to that, I think the fielding ratings mean jack. I have fielders who are rated in the 90s in skill and range yet they can't get to the ball when it is obvious they should.

-another prob with the fielding is that they screwed up on who is highlighted to control when the ball is hit. I have had on numerious occasions the CPU hit the ball to mid CF only to have the game give me control of the 2nd basemen instead of the obvious CF. Now naturally i switch over to the CF as fast as I can but the fact it defaulted to the wrong player causes the occasional hit. The same can be said for the IF players. Ball hit 5 feet off 3rd baseline and the SS is the default player. This didn't happen last year.

-the CPU AI when on defense sucks balls. Yes, the baserunning is MUCH improved over last year but they screwed up the CPU fielding. I have hit a bunch of dribblers near 3rd only to watch the 3rd baseman cover the bag and have the SS run in to field the ball. This always results in me getting a hit whe I should ahve been out. And no, there isn't someone on 2nd for the 3rd baseman to cover the bag. The same junk has happened wiht 2nd and 1st basemen. Ball hit 2 feet from the 2nd basemen and the 1st basement goes to play it. The CPU fielding is junk.

-the ratings for hitters don't seem to mean much when playing. I am using the timed batting (hate cursors) although I have used the cursor for a bit. Now, i do get a lot of hits because of the timed batting but the avergaes don't reflect the ratings. I have a guy who has a 70 avg rating and his avg is .163 while another guy who has an avg rating of around 75 has a batting avg of over .400. The ratings just don't seem to mean anything when playing.

-this isn't an issue with the game but I am striking out a lot wiht the timed hitting. I avg being striked out 9 times a game. however, I avg 13 hits a game. weird.

-having a power swing button is stupid. why? because they ahve made it so you almsot can never hit a homer wiht the normal contact swing button. it is silly to have a power swing button. last year was fine wiht the one swing button. Use the damn ratings to figure out how frequent a player hits a homer or deep ball, etc. Don't use a button.

-stealing is a joke. I have yet to be tagged out stealing 2nd with ANY player and I have stolen bases with guys who have speed ratings ranging from under 50 to 85. It has got to the point that I jsut choose not to steal since it is like a money play. oh and I don't increase my eladoff at all. just default eladoff and use the queque steal option.

-the skill levels dont seem to do ANYTHING towards the CPU AI. You'd think the fielding issues the cpu has would be on rookie but they are on legend. It is pathetic. LIkewise, you'd think on legend you couldn't steal 2nd any time you wanted to.

-there is catchup logic. I can go into the 9th kicking *** and the cpu turns into a hit parade on my ***. sorry, that just isn't realistic.

-the pitch fatigue is wiggy. pitchers get too tired too soon. I had a bloody starter get tired after 4 innings if SHUTOUT ball and he hardly threw any pitches. That ain't right. Last eyar they didn't get tired fast enough and this year they get tired too quickly. This seems to eb the story of WSB2k3...some problems they had last year they over fixed this year.

basically, those are my issues with the game and it is a damn shame because I was so giddy for this game figuring it would be an improved wsb. IMO, it isn't. Yes it looks awesome (especially in 720p mode), yes it sounds awesome, yes it has an incredible franchsie mode and yes, they improved on the issues they had last year. However, while they fixed issues from last year, they created a handful on enw ones and IMO, the game just doesn't play as good as last year.

All in all, wsb2k3 was a big let down for me. it reminds me of asb2003 in many ways like the high strikeout numbers i get pitching, the too quick pitcher fatigue and the jerky fielding and well, I thought asb2003 stunk after I played it for a while. Right nwo I think wsb2k3 is decent but inferior to last eyar. I guess I will jsut be stuck with simming in my frnachise becuas ethat franchise is jsut too good to pass up. If only they could have given improved gameplay to go with that improved franchise mode.

I guess for me actually playing a bball game, I'll stick with hh2004 although I find that game to be somewhat boring.

You know, I often wonder if I am playing a beta version of wsb2k3 because so many here doesn't seem to ahve these issues I do. I envy you all who are enjoying the game and haven't noticed the problems I have.

Here's hoping to wsb2k4 being the great game I thought wsb2k3 was going to be.

Sure you're not playing on ROOKIE or PRO mode? 90K's wtf? You need to turn up your Batter's Eyes slider setting man.

It's funny how all the credible posters I know on the board don't seem to have these issues. What some people do for attention amazes me sometimes.

Funny how when someone doesn't like the game and gives reasons you guys assume he's making it up.
