Why I'm Loving MVP Right Now!

I just cant stop playing this game! As soon as I finnish, I am looking forward to the next one. I can't remember being this into a bb game in at least 5 years. Bear in mind I havent tried WSB yet (waitng for PS2 release), but here are the things that make this game so special:

-GREAT atmosphere...the crowds really get u pumped up. They cheer after you get 2 strikes and they cheer when you are batting and get ahead in the count. I have NEVER seen a crowd like this is any sports game.

-The pitching is so involving....makes the old "pick a pitch, pick a spot and press" method seem so boring now. True, the CPU never swings at anything more than a few inches out of the strike zone, but they will swing at borderline pitches and it really feels like an accomplishment when u get them to wiff!

-Great SlowMo replays - again.....the best I have ever seen in a sports game.

-The hitting method seems simple at first, but when u dig a little deeper, it's very realistic. You can make contact by just swinging at anything, but to have a chance at driving the ball, you have to wait for a good pitch to hit and time it PERFECTLY. The CPU will make u look foolish at times and it's real hard to lay off bad pitches sometimes. The feeling of a power fastball coming in at you in unmatched. Also, when u do nail a hard drive into the gap, it feels great!

-the game has that "what cool thing will I see it do this game" thing about it. I saw a throw from the OF hit the mound and bounce high and the catcher jumped way up and reached for it. They seem like they are "human" sometimes. I have seen balls glance off of gloves a trickle a few feet away. Never has that "predetermined" feel of some games.

-The game is very challenging to me and keeps drawing me back for more. It does have a few faults....the most notable are the lack of walks, the lack of buttons for jump/dive, the sometimes wacky opposing AI for pulling pitchers, and the lack of customizing (no tuning sliders), but if EA builds on this
base next year, they will have one remarkable hardball game on thier hands!

The mound is a funny thing. I saw the exact same thing. I had a slow runner trying to score from 2nd on deep fly. I don't remember who threw it but it was on a rope until it hit the wrong side of the mound allowing my guy to score.

How long on average are you seeing the CPU go?

One other question, is the CPU hitting homers in your games?

    I'm just really curious.

Very good point. The crowd noise/chatter is a wonderful addition.

I have actually gotten the CPU to go after some crap pitches. It happens when the computer is deep into the at bat, meaning alot of pitches have been thrown. If the computer has a low right hot zone, I have thrown a curve w/ a right hander pitcher and gotten the comptuer to chase it. It's good stuff when it happens.

The other thing I love about pitching is when you blow one by the CPU for that 3rd strike. I don't recall ever doing very much in other baseball games.

I know what you mean here. I have heard alot of people say that hitting is way too easy. I have to disagree. You will have to watch for the pitch, watch for rotation on the ball, and swing where the ball is at.

Oh yea! The camera angles are perfect. Other games are going to now have to step up in this department.

Ther are a few things that need to improved on, but for a first time game, I am having a blast so far.

I have played 8 games w/ the Royals and have yet to see the CPU hit a dinger. I am playing the game on pro.

I on the other hand have gotten ahold of a couple. Sweeney and Ibanez both have 3 each. When I hit a dinger, it's really a perfect guess and I get the perfect pitch. On the homers, there was never any doubt about them being gone. I love that feeling!

Giambi hit a homerun the other day off of me in the 8th inning against one of my relievers. First time I've seen the cpu hit a homerun. It was sweet!

CPU will hit it out if u throw any mistake pitches. I usually give up 1 every 1 or 2 games.

Has anyone hit a homer with a non-power hitter? I've played 10 games so far and gone 4-6. However, I've hit ONE HR with the Braves and Sheffield hit that one. I've given up 3 homers in 10 games. 2 to Bonds and 1 to Vlad. I'm playing on Pro and if the only guys who can hit one out are the big boopers then that is a serious drawback to the game.

Also, I started a season and Javier Vasquez started both of the 1st two games of the season for Expos against the Braves. That's not good.
