Are you playing with manual base running or auto base running? I am on auto since I'm still trying to master other aspects of the game. Perhaps the computer always strech the lead (or if you manually increase the base lead) and that's why some of us are seeing more pick-off attempts.

Just wondering if this makes a difference.

I love it. Last year I would steal 10 bases a game. this year i cant steal anything. last year i would take a six step lead. not anymore. i love it. my game this morning was crunch time. i lost 6-5. all star level with the hitting up one notch for both parties. thome has been robbed twice on long balls. dam cpu.

I use manual base running, so that may have something to do with it. I usually don't take an early lead unless I plan on stealing a base. Even then I will usually hit the lead button only once, before the pitcher is set. This has worked good enough for my fast runners to steal some bases. Obviously the risk is that I will hit the lead button just as the pitcher quickly attempts a pickoff... then your toast!

When I'm not stealing I try and get my runners a "jump" by pressing the lead button as soon as the pitcher begins his windup. Lefties are tougher to get a jump against (as in real life), and as before if the pitcher fakes you out you're toast!

Soooo... by not really taking an early lead, that certainly may be why I don't see too many pickoff attempts. It may sound hard to play this way if you're not used to it, but I adjusted pretty quickly. I used to get picked off once every game or so, but i'm finally getting better at it!
