Red Sox Claim Giles off Waivers

Didn't see a thread on this. On Baseball Tonight they said the Sox are negotiating a trade for the 37 year old that would likely include Coco Crisp. But who would play Center Field? With Giles' numbers, you would have to start him, or maybe make him DH if Ortiz goes down. The Red Sox are one of the teams Giles can reject on his no-trade clause, but you have to imagine that if the Sox tell him he will start, he will welcome the move to a contender.

    Thoughts?

Meh, I wish it were Marcus. Brian has nothing to offer for Boston, especially in a stadium like Fenway. It will just be another deep right field like PETCO.

Giles blocked/rejected the claim, he's staying in SD.

I didn't know you could do that, is it similar to a no-trade clause?

He has a partial no trade clause and the sox are in it, so he can do that. Even if the Padres would've just let the Sox have him(like that would ever happen) he could've blocked that because of his no trade clause.

Thank God he blocked it. I do not want to see Giles in a Sox uniform.

Marcus Giles stunk more than Brian. Hell, is Marcus still in the league?

I understand that, but Brian is just getting older. Marcus did well in some years in Atlanta; in later years he had obvious holes in his swing that even I could correct. Tweak some of those and put him in Fenway Park, and he'll look like he did in 2003.

As much as i don't know why they wanted Brian Giles why would they want Marcus Giles?, it doesn't make any sense. They already have Dustin Pedroia who is second in the AL in hits. Please tell you guys aren't suggesting Marcus Giles is better than Pedroia?.

That is some very wishful thinking.

Marcus Giles is terrible right now, beyond fixing.

No sir, I wasn't considering any of the other players. I was just saying that, in a park like Fenway, Marcus is better than Brian.

I had hope for him coming into spring training but he lost the job to a rookie/AAA talent who in turn struggled in the big league.

I don't see it. Marcus, like Andruw, is done at an early age.
