Re: Evan Longoria on the DL with a FRACTURED WRIST
true, but they've been holding thier own...including this weekend...when they had no Longoria, and Crawford for only a game I believe...
kudos to them...
but they are going to be really tested now...I'm sure the vets in the clubhouse who've been in these situations before (Floyd, Hinske, Percival), will help immensly.

Hell, even teams that I root for aside from my team that's dead in the water have injury problems.

At least they have Rocco Baldelli as a stop gap for Crawford but who do they have to take Longoria's spot? I think they may have to look at making a trade.
BTW i'm also on the Rays bandwagon.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

@ SPTO
Justin Ruggiano was call up from Durham. Baldelli will ONLY be a part time player for the Rays for the rest of this season...they will take it easy on him because of past health issues.

I don't know if I'll say I'm on the bandwagon. I've been following what they've been doing for the last couple years and am really proud that they're finally putting all those young pieces together to kick some butt.Comment

Re: Evan Longoria on the DL with a FRACTURED WRIST
I'm totally on the bandwagon and this is terrible news. Hopefully they can at least play .500 ball over this two week stretch without two of their best hitters. As long as the pitching keeps doing what it's been doing I think they'll be alright.Comment

Re: Evan Longoria on the DL with a FRACTURED WRIST
There's something different about Tampa. Maybe it's just because I've felt so sorry for them because they are confined to the absolute worst excuse of a stadium ever and that they sorely need a decent fan base when they're against the two highest payrolls in the league. Granted, I don't feel the same for Baltimore (indecent ownership) or Toronto (blame Canada).
Needless to say, I'm pulling for the Rays to take the division... Boston can get the wild card.Last edited by Blzer; 08-12-2008, 12:33 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Evan Longoria on the DL with a FRACTURED WRIST
Blzer I have basically the same sentiments as you. I hate every AL East team with the passion of 10 burning suns but when it comes to the Rays...Well it's akin to the Miracle Mets of '69. They've been down for so long and basically an inept franchise that seeing them breaking out like this in '08 is a great thing.
Let's at least hope they can sell out the Trop during playoff games if they make it that far.
Oh and one thing for us AL East people to worry about? Joe Maddon has basically brought in the Angels philosophy in terms of how the team functions on and off the field. That's pretty scary when you look at how good the Angels have been for the last few years.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Now they supposedly have a new stadium coming in about 5 years.
The Rays are going to be a serious factor for years. I think Baltimore is righting their ship as well. The AL East is going to be really scary for years to come. You're going to have some really good teams not make the playoffs.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Evan Longoria on the DL with a FRACTURED WRIST
It's not like this is their first injury. Kazmir, Garza, Percival, Pena, Navarro, Floyd, and Bartlett have all seen time on the DL throughout the year. It's been rare for them to be at full strength.
What's made them a very good team is guys like Zobrist, Riggans, Gross, Balfour, etc. stepping up when other players have gone down. Obviously Crawford and Longo are key injuries. The good thing is they have a relatively easy August with the exception of the week they face the Angels and White Sox. Crawford is likely out for the remainder of the regular season, but it sounds like Evan should be back before September. If Evan isn't back when they start 13 out of 16 against the Yankees and Sox, I'll be really worried about their chances. I'd hate to see this run end because of bad luck injuries (CC hurt on a check swing, Evan on a HBP).MLB: Rays

Re: Evan Longoria on the DL with a FRACTURED WRIST
Crawford most likely to miss rest of season with surgery. Losing the two top offensive players is going to hurt big time.
Do the franchise a favor, along with the playoffs hopes and bring in Bonds.I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment
