Hitting/Pitching interface is great BUT the fielding.....

EA really made a realistic batting and hitting engine but the fielding play in this game still feels very Triple Playish....especially the infield game...it doenst feel as realistic as other baseball games...its a bit too over the top and arcade-ish. I have seen 1st basemens in the game with no real range in real baseball come up with fielding plays halfway down the 2nd base line to snag grounders.....And all the infielders seem to catch everything on the run. There's not enough subtle stationary fielding in the infield. I would have like to have seen more realistic errors, short hops that get booted, balls that hit off the heel of an infielders glove, some bobbled balls, ect....the fielding is a little to clean.

Also in the outfield, too many balls cut thru the gap. Outfielders dont cut off balls enough to prevent balls going to the wall. I thing the fielding is smooth and control is tight but there seems to be a little to much WOW factor thrown in. I would have liked the fielding to be a bit more realistic, more variety, more blunders and scaled to reflect more of the real ratings MLB players have.
The gameplay is still very fun but with the hitting and pitching engine so realistic in the game, I think if EA also spent more time creating more realistic fielding, this game would have been perfect all around......

the fielding is fine i think. i love bouncing the ball to 1st from 3rd. the thing is, i'm having a problem turning good double plays though. i cant seem to get my shortstop and 2nd baseman to stop hesitating before throwing to 1st with the throwing meter.

runners seem to run so slow to first, that the risk/reward throwing meter is pretty useless.......it could be alot better

Throwing meter works fine to me.

I agree that the runner to first is very slow! There are about 6-10 DP's per game between the CPU and me.

when i field a grounder and just make a normal throw to first, the runner is usually not even on the screen near 1st base....this needs to be better tuned next year. its too easy to throw runners out in the infield without even using the powered up meter throw....plus I would like to see more bad throws that go over the head of the fielder if you power it up too much

Some things I havent really seen or felt in the infield is the way a 3rd basemen or ss will go into the hole, stab a ball, set his feet and try to make a tthrow while off balance or pivoting off his back foot....I think they could work on that too.

There are many things to love about this game but the fielding has caused me to return it. I have lost too many games because the ball seems to magically be placed DIRECTLY in gaps between the fielders, and balls end up rolling to the wall because it takes a bit too long to get the proper fielder after the ball. I have used ALL fielding cameras with no luck.

I have been watching alot of replays on infield hits and I think the problem is that the runners dont get down the line quick enough but also I have noticed that almost all the infielders charge the ball...in baseball, the only time a fielder can really have time to charge a ball is on a weakly hit grounder....in mvp all the fielders seem to charge the ball backhand it and throw in motion too quickly, I would like to see the ball play the fielder as he waits for it to come to him, crouch down and then get set to throw...at least mix it up a bit better. The infielders seem to all have great range. I dont think I have seen a ground go inbetween a ss and 3basemen or between a 2ndbasemen and 1stbasemen thru the hole....unless its a line drive over their head. All the infielders seem to have all star range
