Yes, he got nailed, but it was closer than ever before with the headfirst slide, and unfortunately I ended up running on a high outside fastball, which is the worst pitch to steal on. But shortly after that I stole my first base with Edgar Renteria, using the headfirst slide.
So I'm convince that you have to slide headfirst when you steal.
