OK, I've got MVP for XBOX here unopened and....

I just can't decide what to do. I'm currently really enjoying HH2004 and MVP sounds awesome from what I am hearing but there are two things I am hearing that I can't get over. 1) Sounds like when it comes to HR'S the computer is unreallistically anemic. I don't know if I can handle playing through 20 games or whatever and seeing the computer hit 3 HR'S. 2) No strikeouts, is it really true that they are next to nonexistent? What do you think. Is the game so good that you can overlook these downfalls?

I'm a long time HH fan and couldn't wait to get this year's version. I am about 20 games into my franchise with the Cardinals and I love it. But I rented MVP on a whim just to check out the new pitcher/batter interface because I really can't stand cursors. I didn't expect to like the game much, but now after 2 days and 10 games I can't put it down. I think this may be the first year I ever own 2 baseball games.

I am a baseball purist and stat junkie at heart, so I've always loved HH gameplay, the fact that you draw and give up walks, realistic results, and all of that.

But I can't put MVP down right now. It's just too much fun. There are nagging issues for baseball purists (if you're going to double switch you have to do it when you first pinch hit for your pitcher and you can't wait until the end of the half-inning to see who made the last out and then double-switch accordingly - not a huge deal, but there are nagging things like that). But taking it for what it is, an extremely fun, challenging game with no cursor, great presentation, great graphics, fun fielding, and great replays. The pitcher/batter interface is much better than I thought it was.

But I didn't like it until about the third game, when I changed the fielding cam to "broadcast", turned the pitching cursor off, turned vibration off (so you don't know when you are pitching out of the strike zone).

The lack of CPU homeruns is real. I've given up 3 or 4 in the 10 games. And I couldn't strike out anyone for a while, but am now having more success (see other threads for some good tips from others.) So if you can put aside the things that make you love High Heat and you want a very fun, innovative, challenging and well presented game, I say break open the box and pop it in. I also really like the baserunning controls (although it's too hard to steal right now).

The first time I heard the Busch stadium crowd chanting "let's go Cards" it freaked me out. It has the best sound of any baseball game I've ever played by far, and I'm surprised at how much of a difference that makes.

I have to say that the computer has hit a fair number of homers on me. I'm the Tigers though and my staff for the most part sucks, so take from that what you will. As for strikeouts, it is tough to strike the CPU out, but by no means TOO tough. I've had 5-6 strikeout games before with my garbage pitching staff, so I'm sure almost any pitcher could do it in the right situation.

By the way I just figured out how to doubleswitch after you're done batting. You have to make a defensive substitution to bring in a fielder to pitch (the one that you want to bat in the pitcher's spot) and he will then be in the 9th spot, then you go to the menu to switch defensive positions and switch the new fielder with whoever you are taking out, thereby making that player the pitcher, then finally make a pitching substitution to bring the pitcher in for that person. It's awkward, but it works.

And I forgot to mention one of the biggest gripes for sim minded people - no warming up of pitchers. That should be an easy one to put in for next year, or at least an option to turn that on or off.

open it up u will like it, it plays a great game of baseball and the franchise mode is the best with momentum, rivals, and being able to jump in the middle of the game it makes going through 162 games much quicker, im currently in june of my season, ive simmed a bunch, played a bunch, and jumped in games most of them.

the strikeouts come with practice, along with the homeruns, i have no problems hitting homeruns with anybody in my line up, i play as the yankees but still, once u start playing and get a feel for the game both of them will come, the computer hrs is a problem, but they manage to score runs other ways, i have given up some hrs not a much as i should of but if u make a mistake to a slugger like bonds or sosa u will pay

hope this helps u really should give it a try, its a very fun/addicting game

nyyfan when you hit homeruns what are you doing with the left analog stick? Pushing up? Up and in? Leaving it in the middle?

im hitting up and whatever direction it is for your hitter to pull the ball, i do that and i wait for a pitch to hit or the pitcher to make a mistake, works best when u are ahead in teh count

i posted a few days ago tips for hrs and strikeouts if u look a few pages back u should find it maybe that can help too
