Glavine out for the year

W/Smoltz having gone down eariler, & the ages of these 2, imagine if this was their last season. & Maddux was to retire this year. Wouldn't it be nice if all 3 were to enter the Hall together in 2013?

That would be something special.

In reality though Smoltz has said he plans to rehab and try to play again. Despite a poor record (6-9) If Greg Madduz wants to play next season he will probably get the chance. He still has a decent ERA and he has given up 4 runs or fewer in 6 of his 9 losses so the Padres poor offense is more to blame than Maddux' pitching. Glavine has said his career is likely over, and why not. 300+ wins, 2 Cy Young awards, 10 time allstar, a World Series ring, there is nothing left to accomplish.

If this is it for Tom i don't think i'm alone here when i say i tip my cap to him.

It's been hard watching him this year, especially his last start when he had absolutely nothing... I think Smoltz will be back, but Glavine appeared to be shot.

Incredibly sad way to end his career but he was one helluva pitcher. I kinda wanted to see the ol' gang back for one last season (Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine) I guess that idea can be thrown out the window now

I did want to see him pitch again at Shea against the Mets, but it looks like that won't happen

More like Game 161.0000001, since that's about how long he lasted. I would have liked one last chance to pummel him.

I wouldn't be saying farewell yet guys as he might not be done afterall. He doesn't need tommy john surgery, he only needs his flexor tendon repaired which only requires 4-5 months of rehab so he very well could be healthy come spring training next year and decide to pitch.

I'm glad he'll have a chance to walk off the mound instead of being carried off. Personally though, I don't know why a 40+ old pitcher clearly on the downside of a HOF career would want to go through all that hassle.

With John Smoltz and Tim Hudson likely out for all of, if not most of next season i can't see why they wouldn't give Glavine another look next spring.
