    Has this happened to anyone?

I'm playing in my expansion fanchise and I have a game off between my 3 game series with the cubs and my 3 game series with the phillies. I finished off game 3 with the cubs with my #4 starter. I get to philly and for some reason I see my #1 guy on the hill. For some reason it skipped my #5 guy. In most cases I wouldn't mind since my #1 guy was full rested but since my #5 guy has been pitching the best out of all of my starters I was a bit peeved. I didn't change anything with my rotation and I didn't make any roster adjustments between the two series. This is either a bug (a small one mind you) or the computer decided that since my #1 guy was good to go and based on days between starts it was his turn so it penciled him in. Any thoughts? I'm also wondering if this will mess up my rotation.

Yeah, that's the way it is pretty much in real baseball too. The five man rotation exists to give at least 4 days rest between starts. So when there's a day off the 5th man gets skipped.

Think about it... you're managing the Diamondbacks, do you want to give Unit and Schilling the same ammount of starts as Armando Reynoso, even if you could assure them plenty of rest? Of course not.

If you're playing each game, however, just go to options at the team controller page and you can see who's scheduled to pitch and change it there.

Yea that's all I did but I don't like the fact that the computer just changed it for me. That's all I'm saying and nowhere in the game does it say that it will do this. Plus when my #5 guy is undefeated and in the race for the cy young he doesn't really need to be skipped.

Then don't skip him...you have the ability to change it. However, it is realistic.

I decided not to skip him and my reward is that my rotation is messed up. Now I have to go in before every game and change my starting pitcher. And yea while it might be realistic for some teams it doesn't really mesh with my team. My starters are:
                A. Pettite
                M. Prior
                C.c. Sabathia
                R. Helling
                C. Finley

All I'm trying to say is that it shouldn't have done this automatically and I'm wondering if it has happened to anyone other than me.

I understand your frustration. There's a lot of stuff that isn't in the book that takes place in the game. But it's the reason why teams talk about looking for a "number one" starter. If your #5 if having such a good year, he should be the #1, the ace if you will. I think it's definitely realistic that your best starters should get 3 or four more starts over the course of the season. Isn't it the same reason guys bat higher in the order, so that they get, on average, more at bats in a given game and in the season?

Yea but I can't really change my rotation the same way I can change my batting lineup.

I just think that I should have been able to decide whether or not the #5 guy started or not. I know he's not going to be lights out all year but at the moment he is so I want to use him as much as I can. I'm sure by the middle and near the end of the season Chuck's arm will be falling off. I know the theory on skipping the #5 guy in favour of your ace but you don't skip a guy that's hot.
