how's the AI in MVP?
i have HH 2004 and everyone knows how good the AI is in that game but i'd like to try another BB game for better grtaphics etc., i was leaning toward WS but i've been hearing good things about MVP, especially the pitcher batter interface, i'd really like it if someone who's played some of the different games this year could tell me how MVP stacks up as far as realistic AI, i mean will the cpu go for the extra base, you know score from 2nd on a hit, go from 1st to 3rd etc., how good is the AI at hitting even after a person masters the pitching in the game, are they easy to throw out stealing, will i be able to steal on them with no trouble, also how do the graphics in MVP compare to WS, are the players scaled, have there own batting stances etc, etc. etc., thanks.Tags: None -

Re: how\'s the AI in MVP?
The AI is not bad at all. It is not easy to steal at all. The game plays a good game of fun baseball. You just keep coming back to play it over and over. It is extremely hard to K th CPU but when you do get 5,6 or more K's a game it is exciting.
The graphics are 2nd behind WSBB but only by a hair IMO. the sounds are very nicely done.
Rent the game at least. Then make a decision.

Re: how\'s the AI in MVP?
The base running AI is solid. Runners take extra bases when you expect them to. The pitcher/batter interface is a blast and has made it difficult for me to switch over and play WSB (pitching now in WSB is a bit on the boring side, and I prefer MVP hitting vs. WSB cursor hitting). The graphics are nice (WSB graphics are crisper/brighter, but MVP seems to have batter ball physics - especially ball flight and bat/ball contact).
The players are scaled and most of the batting stances are dead on. I'm not sure how many unique stances MVP has but it seems to have stances even for players who aren't superstars (e.g., Klesko's stance is dead on).
I really like the MVP franchise mode, but its not as deep as WSB's (e.g., no year-to-year stat tracking, no non-pitcher fatigue engine). The ability to jump into simmed games is great and I hope every baseball game has this next year. The momentum concept in franchise mode is cool too.
MVP isn't perfect, but it is a good solid, and most importantly, fun baseball game.XBL: TancComment

The CPU manager's AI is VERY ODD. when it comes to line up changes, subs, pulling pitchers, and giving away too much on trades.Comment

The manager AI is definitely not perfect. AI does seem to bring in relievers a little early at times (I've seen a lot of CPU pitchers go into the 6th or 7th inning, but sometimes the CPU will pull a pitcher in the 5th inning even when he's not getting hit hard). The CPU also doesn't seem to double-switch when it would make a lot of sense to do so (e.g., I've seen a relief pitcher come in to face one batter for the third out and then lead off the next inning). The trade AI should be a little more stringent. IMO none of these things are terrible, they just make you scratch your head when they happen. But I scratch my head a lot when watching real baseball managers and GM's too, so maybe MVP is more authentic then I thoughtXBL: TancComment

Re: how\'s the AI in MVP?
Suprisingly, the AI is why I eventually ended up keeping this game over WSB. True, WSB does more of everything and MVP has plenty of flaws....my priority is with the batter/pitcher interface. It just feel so much more involved in MVP, like if I lose my focus for one pitch it will likely get hammered. The fact that there are huge threads just on how to strike a guy out, AND the fact that despite that difficulty it IS possible....well, thats just a great thing. In WSB i felt like I could just throw. Didnt really have to pay attention to my pitches that much, some would strike them out, some would get hammered, it just seemed almost random and it lacks the user interaction feeling that MVP gave me. The feeling from a single hard earned strikeout was more exhilerating to me than winning an entire game in WSB. This really isnt a knock on WSB, I loved the game last year and raved about it for a week this year prior to being converted kicking and screaming to MVP. Yes, there should be more home runs. Yes, the runner speed to first seems a bit slow to me. Yes, the cpu makes a few questionable managerial decisions and in some ways it doesnt feel as polished. Bottom line though, where it counts, this game has it and it won me over.gt: casey yellowstone PS5Comment

Re: how\'s the AI in MVP?
thanks for the comments guys, i'm wondering if you think using the meter system if a person could master it completly thereby making the game to easy, i remember some of the meter systems in basketball games for shooting freethrows, very difficult and challenging at the start but after awhile it became easy, also when your pitching does the meter thing take away from the visual aspect of the game in that your just looking at a meter and not the batter, i've never seen the game yet so i'm just trying to imagine what it looks like, thanks again.Comment
