    Questionable CPU Baserunning Decisions

Is anyone else seeing questionable CPU baserunning decisions (Xbox version)? I am enjoying the game, but here are just a few examples from a game I played tonight:

    1. The CPU did not advance from second to third on a ball caught in deep right center field (against the wall).

    2. The CPU did not advance from second to third on a single up the middle. Do you want to know why? The CPU runner dove back to second on the grounder slightly to the right side of second base!

    3. The CPU did not score in the bottom of the 10th with a man on third and one out down by one run on a slow bouncer to the hole between 1st and second. My infield was at normal depth.

Here are a couple of problems I noticed in some previous games:

    1. The CPU laid down a bunt with a man at second and didn't advance to third despite a very good bunt.

    2. In another situation with a man on first, I misplayed a shallow blooper by accidentally switching to my right fielder. The ball bounced in front of my RF but I had time to gun out the lead runner at second base for a force out. The problem? There were two outs!

I have played about 25 games. The CPU has made the correct decision in every game. Very aggressive. I let my centerfielder stand pat on a ball hit to CF, not charging it, thinking Durham just had a single. I look up and Durham is running towards second and just beats my throw.

    This AI is very aggressive.

        Re: Questionable CPU Baserunning Decisions

The CPU has shown signs of aggressiveness in the games I have played, but I don't think I've played a game where a fairly obvious baserunning mistake hasn't been made. The common mistakes I have seen are runners not advancing on ground balls to the right side, not moving from 1st to 3rd on singles when the opportunity is clearly available, and not advancing on deep fly balls to the outfield.

I wouldn't consider the CPU aggressive at all. In fact, I cannot recall an instance where I have thrown out the CPU trying to take an extra base or trying to score on a sacrifice fly. Usually, the CPU only takes the extra base or takes chances when it KNOWS it is going to make it. If the CPU was so aggressive maybe I would throw them out on the basepaths every now and then.

I have played about 50 games in my Texas franchise and i have seen smart and aggressive baserunning by the CPU. I have noticed that on balls hit to the outfield, if i hesitate to get the ball in, he will advance. Sometimes I catch him and sometimes I don't. He has tagged up on flyballs in the outfield and on foul balls. I have seen a double steal and a squeeze play at the plate. This is just for my franchise though, I can't speak for anyone else. I am very pleased with this game all around.

I am glad you guys aren't having as many issues. That makes me feel better because I really do like the game so far, but I haven't had a chance yet to put it through the ropes.

I can't imagine playing 50 games in one week. At this pace you will be done with a season before real baseball starts!

What level are you playing on? Maybe that plays a factor in the aggressiveness of the AI.

Yea, I am a baseball junkie.. I have been turned off from console baseball games for awhile (my last one was the last Triple Play) still trying to recover from that one. I got my XBOX this year just for WSB after hearing so many good things about last years version. With all the B-ball games out this year, this is the most well rounded and the scary thing is, that it will keep getting better each year.

You're a baseball junkie and played triple play? Sad.
be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those that mind, don't matter.
