Alex, Get Ready For Nine More Years of This

So, it's begun. Now the rumblings around the league is that Yankees brass, full aware of their inability to hit with RISP, is not only looking at guys like Jeter and Cano not producing, or Matsui and Posada being injured, but yes, Alex Rodriguez.

Club higherups are concerned enough about A-Rod that they are even wondering aloud whether his off-field distractions are affecting his play.

This is laugh out loudable, here. The man has the second highest OPS in the American League and has a very good stat line of .309, 28 homers and 78 RBIs.

Yet, because he his only hitting .244 RISP, the team is concerned that he is letting his off-field problems affect his play. Because you know, only when runners are on base does Alex start thinking about Madonna and his estranged wife, Cynthia.

Yes, Alex Rodriguez is not exactly hitting well with RISP, but to single him out when he is at least producing is ridiculous. Dumb baseball fans will actually ignore Jeter's high GIDP, decreasing power numbers, and lower overall production; Cano's un-Cano-like hitting numbers; or for that matter the fact that the Yankees were without two of their biggest run producers for almost all of this season in Jorge Posada and Hideki Matsui.

Come on, this is something I expect stupid Yankees fans to complain about on a daily basis. But, Yankees' top execs to start these whispers? Just sad.

At least Jon Heyman had the guts to end his piece with the agonizing truth: "...this team has far bigger worries than A-Rod, like missing the playoffs for the first time since 1993."

Well.. considering his rants this year, the only "official" I could think of is Hank. I just think the team as a whole is having a down year.

But he's a target because he makes the $$ and has been in the tabloids a lot this year.

Cashman has repeatedly pointed out that the Yankees are not producing with RISP. Have to wonder if he's purposely pointing his finger at a particular player making $30 million a season.

I realize that Alex is supposed to be the big man, considering his contract, but he actually has been. Those numbers are team leading, nearly league leading, and all with him missing a month of action.

Yeah, A-Rod is the least of the offenses problem. Sure, he could be having a better season especially with RISP but there are 4-5 players I'd point a finger at before A-Rod. Besides Damon and Giambi, I'd say everyone else is this year has been a disappointment, whether it's lack of production or injury.

As much as I hate A-Rod he's not the sole reason for the team's struggles. There are times when the Yanks look great on offense but at other times they look pretty old and lethargic especially in the field. (hey i'm looking at you Damon) The team just needs to get younger but everyone cries out that Yankees fans can't take a rebuilding phase which is poppycock because people say that about the Maple Leafs in Toronto and right now they're rebuilding. I don't hear people in Toronto suddenly not supporting the Leafs. NY can take a 2-3 year downturn if it means getting younger and better.

This isn't surprising though because A-Rod is the big target and Hank is foolish to alienate people just to make a point.

Since we've had a great farm system pitching-wise over the last three years the NY media is now starting to cry because the farm is dead in terms of positional talent outside of Austin Jackson. You can't have your cake and eat it to, for years people said the Yankees need to develop their own young pitching and now that they've done that people are turning around saying the Yankees made a mistake by ignoring the positional players.

            - Damon
            - Jeter
            - Abreu
            - A-Rod
            - Giambi
            - Matsui
            - Posada
            - I-Rod

All those guys are over 30 and a few are over 35. Right now we have Robinson Cano and Xavier Nady and that's it for regulars who are under 30. Melky is a disaster, I don't think he'll ever have an every-day job in The Bronx again. It's definitely a concern but the bright side is that it's much easier to find positional players via free agency than it is quality starting pitching.

losing matsui was huge...that guy has been one of my favorite hitters since he arrived, and a guy like him is crazy valuable...power to all fields, smart, patient, knows how to hit doubles almost on command.

so many writers/steinbrenners are so caught up with the wrong guys and, i think, ignore matsui (and thus, his contribution and value) because he isn't glamorous. They would have to admit that the homely import is better than Jeter, Giambi, etc...and almost on par value-wise with ARod

I'm not big on the A-Rod not being clutch thing, but his at bats have been terrible with risp, at least lately.

He is far from the biggest problem, but that doesn't say that they think he's the biggest problem.

I would still take Arod over any player in baseball despite him having only 3 rbi all year in the 7th inning or late.Hes way too good to hear boos from his own fans.

He really sucks in the 5th inning though, that's a deal breaker for me.
