Re: Web Gem! (and my replay dreams...)

Okay, here's my dream for next year's edition (just in regards to the replays). First, the ability to actually save the replays that you want to save like you can in NFL 2K3. I would love to be able to save the big plays from the season and watch them whenever I want. It would be cool to see a Baseball Tonight show at the end of the week that recaps the big highlights from the week's important games (and actual highlights - not canned shots you see over and over). Sort of a "Plays Of The Week" feature.

Second, something cool on saving your replays would be the ability to set different camera angles for different spots in the replay. For example, maybe you start out behind the pitcher until the ball is hit, then you watch the trajectory from third base until it travels to the outfield, then finally place the camera at the base of the wall and tilt up to see the ball travel over the fence. Then, when you save that replay and watch it again later the camera changes at the points you specified.

Finally, and something that would be a great bonus, would be to have the saved replays associated with the mode you're currently in. So if you're playing a franchise as the Giants, for example, all of the saved replays from that season's games would go in a specific "folder" on the drive. Then, when the season has been completed, the game could automatically go into that "folder" and randomly select 10-15 of those replays you saved and show them all run together to the SportsCenter/Baseball Tonight music. So basically you would get a montage of your season's highlights as sort of a recap of the year's big moments for your team.

    What do you all think?

Yeah, I thought so. See, so they had the technology and programming to do it last year - so why isn't it in this game?

The game was made by a different company.

This does sound really cool, but it would have to be saved as a movie in order for it to work right.

Saving replays would also mean having to save information like which teams were playing and in which ballpark, stuff like that. I'm not saying it's hard to do, but you wouldn't be able to string all those hilights together unless there was some way to save as a movie (.mpg or something). Otherwise, they would have to load in the next stadium and teams each time, which takes about as long as it does to normally load in the game.

If you save as a movie, you wouldn't be able to go in after that and change anything. If you save as a regular replay, then you would be able to go in and look at any angle you want again.

Great idea! I just wanted to explain some of the logistics, though.

                Yes, that's true. Good point.

Maybe it could just take highlights saved at your home ballpark? That way it would only have to load the one ballpark beforehand and then it could run through the highlights there?

Obviously it's an idea that needs some more thought and work, but I think it would be awesome.
