Re: The Tampa Bay Rays...the MAGIC NUMBERS ARE...

Someone should tell the AP to do some research.

The Yankees, again owners of baseball's highest payroll on opening day this season, haven't been this low in the division after an All-Star break since 1995. That was the last time they were home for the playoffs.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Ouch, Red Sox trailing the Rays 3-2 in the 8th with two out and Bay hits a two run homer to put the Sox up.

That right there could be the hit that defines the Red Sox season if they hold on to win the division.

Well... Dan Johnson just tied the game with a solo shot off Papelbon.

Hopefully this win calms the waters that the Rays have been drowning in the last little while.

Bad loss for the Sox. Had the game and the division lead and Paps couldn't hold on.

That's the game that takes the Rays to the playoffs.

I was at that game... No one sat down after Bay Hit the HR everyone was so pumped and then Papelbon happened. Everyone went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows .... it sucked.

Rays win again tonight. I think this series is the one that wraps this division up.

And in the biggest series this year for both the Red Sox and the Rays...the Sox are out to a 7-1 lead in the 4th.

And Kazmir seems absolutely demoralized. He didn't even run towards the first base bag on a ground out, and Elsbury beat him there for a single.

                          I just saw this post.

Hate to say it, but if you're rooting for someone other than the team you're a "fan" of, to make the World Series over that team...you're not a real fan of the team. If the Sox didn't have a legit shot at the Series, or were eliminated from the playoffs - I'd agree, and I would be rooting for the Rays as well. But as a Sox fan, there is absolutely no way I want anyone other than the Sox to make and win the World Series.

And I don't mean to sound rude...but how can you be a fan of any team and then root for a division rival to make the series over them?

Not rude. That's a fair question. Been asked that a lot. Here's the answer. I'm a fan of a TON of different teams. I'm a fan of the Red Sox, Rays, Athletics, Brewers, Cubs, Dodgers, and D-Backs. So we have 3 major clashes there. I don't know why but I've just never been a huge fan of just one team. I'm a fan of a bunch.
