    Back in my day...

I have to preface this by saying i am not all that old (26). I cringe at all these posts by people who take back their games after 2 hours because Jason Giambi's jockstrap is not properly outlined on the Yankees alternate jersey panties.

I remember playing the first Hardball game on my C-64 and just about wasting my junior high pants because the graphics were so 'real'. my friends and I had intense tournaments with these two stupid teams (i can't even remember their names.)
Then came 'Sporting News Baseball' (also for C-64) which had real MLB teams but no season mode. I wrote out my own schedule and played the season, mostly basing my standings on real life results.
Then i got a console and played Triple Play, (good for a while.)

Anyway.... the whole point is i am tired of posts attacking games because a certain players stance is wrong or someon'e's bat is the wrong color. If a game produces a realistic baseball product it is great in my book.

I beleive that as soon as the gaming industry became a multi billion dollar industry, expectations rose too high because companies tried to give more realism. Now it is expected and anything less is unacceptable. Thats the evolution of the industry. You gotta either learn to adjust, or you can just not pay attention to the millions of game 'experts' out on the net in full force.

Man i do miss my c-64. Never finished Bard's tale II which still irks me to this day.

Amen. While I like a certain amount of graphic realism in a game I payed $50 for to play on my $200 (at the time) machine, it's certainly not the most important thing. Every player could have the same head for all I care if the game plays an accurate version of baseball.

I miss my C64 too. It's down in the basement, but that clunky floppy drive doesn't work anymore. Of course, that's what emulators are for

Yo Eddie, this discussion reminds me of what I had told you the other night...lol

I'm 29, the games we had back then when nothing more than pixelly looking crap, but you know what? We dealt with it and STILL managed to find these games fun..

I think someone else mentioned as to why bro. We had 2 options back then, play the game, or dont play the game. There was no place to whine as there is today on the net. Most people figured playing video games was the equivalent of having toys, so no one cared.

All that has changed though, and in some way i dont think its for the better.

                            Ahhhh, the old C64 Hardball.

I still remember having a no-hitter going into the ninth (with Tommy Euler, I believe). Well, my mom walks into my room, and I get distracted talking to her, and give up a hit. I have not forgiven her to this day.
