I went over budget, so what happens to me bad now?

I was at full budget with 0 BP left and did a trade with the pirates to get Jason Kendall. The CPU said it wanted 29 BP to do it. So I said yeah just figuring it'd take it out of future income or something. Well now it says i'm overbudget by like 40 BP. however it seems nothing "bad" has happened to me yet for being overbudget.

whats going to happen to me being overbudget, will I just lose players at the end of the year or will i be penalized draft picks (like the NFL) or what?

I have this problem too... The TIgers suck so I did what I had to do to get some decent players.

How can I dump more crappy players? What screens do I use?

I have tried this in the past(cant remember the screen..im at work) and was told that I need to PAY some BP in order to cut them?!?!

Is this correct? I can drop some dead weight if I can figure out how.

            Thanks.

There are some issues with the budget system however. One (as these posts point out) its not at all intuitative. You can add and drop players at multiple points and the budget number one change. Another big issue I have is there are times when I want to sign free agents (especially at the start of a season) and it says I am over budget.. After I drop players the number still dosent change. I actually have to start the season in order for the number to change, and miss the beginning free agent period.

Also I see no penalties for agreeing to teams when they ask for budget points to complete a trade?

Well if you release a player- you have to pay them whatever money they are owed on their contract. So you can not save any money by just releasing players- you just open a roster spot.

The only way around this is to trade the player, making the new team responsible for their contract.

And if a player is out of options (like almost every player with 3 or more years of ML service are) you can't send them down to the minors either. You have to but out their contract and release them.

If you are over-budget, you cannot re-sign players and free agents and after the season, depending on how you do, you will continue to lose money if you don't reduce payroll. That is a significant penalty in of itself. Another way to improve this is to do well and hope that more fans will come to your games so your income will increase
