dirty disc message! this disc is new!

Got mvp for the xbox, TWICE, Then had to return the 2nd copy too. Seems I
got an error message during gameplay at all different points of play. One
game actually finished so I thought just blowing out the dust worked. It -
the error message which was a black screen with yellow or white lettering-,
said I had a dirty disc or damaged disc. I was pissed. All the while my
other discs work fine. I have never bought a faulty disc in all my years of
gaming. I figured my xbox must be a little dirty because after the first
time I played mvp and got the error message, I put in world series baseball
and that game actually froze on the blue spaceship in the beginning. Then
after I took it out I and put another game in that worked fine, I have
played many games of world series since , pc- vs. pc- and have had no
problems. So I went out of my way to find a cleaner for my xbox. The dumb
*** at the eb sold me the one for the ps, and psx2. So Frustrated now I
have just returned the game mvp baseball and put money down to get the pc
version Tuesday. I also purchased a new video card to play it, comp usa had
    a radeon 9000 pro 128mb for 120 dollars. I know my 1.6 p might not take
full advantage of the card but I might upgrade my chip if possible in the
next year or so if need be. Hopefully not need be but oh well. Now I have
to get the card installed by my bro since im a dunce at this type of thing.

eh, I followed some advice in another thread and "exchanged" my launch XBOX for a 2002 XBOX and since then I have NOT had the dirty disk problem. I haven't even gotten a "can't read disc" problem.

I know people wanna believe it's the disk, but in my example it was def the unit. WHich is exactly as I predicted.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I can second what YankeePride said. I was getting dirty disk errors with outlaw golf and wsb2k2, but nothing else. I replaced my launch Xbox with a June 2002 Xbox and have never had another dirty disk error. Plus it's much quieter...

Can you tell steps on the proper care for xbox. Like to prevent it from being damaged because i used to have a launch xbox and it broke due to some i think electrical problems and now i have a August 2002 Xbox. Could be the electrical outlet or thunderstorms happening in my area. Just want to know the proper care to prevent my Xbox from being damaged. Thanks.

I can't believe you said that

The first thing I noticed about the new XBOX was how QUIET it was compared to the launch one. It still amazes me to this day.

                        1. Turn on the system with the power button, NEVER the eject button.
                        2. Wait till the light stops blinking to open/close the diskdrive.
                        3. Eject your disk in the main screen rather than the gamescreen or submenu screens.
                        4. Keep the unit about 12-16 inches away from a cdplayer, television, dvd player, etc.
                        5. Don't place on a rug.
                        6. Give enough space for air ventilation.

This just happened to me. Black screen with dirty disk error. This has never happened to me before. I bought my Xbox in March of 2002. Is that past the point of the launch units? I take immaculate care of my consoles and disks.
