    Re: Draft Questions

One thing we might be missing is that a C+ pitcher might be better than a C+ hitter in this game. I don't know if you guys had the same results, but pitching really dominated my first season like it was the late 60's again. I mean, there were some great seasons by pitchers who should be mediocre. I checked stats from team to team and saw Larry Walker had only 14hrs in a full (non-injured) season. I saw Carlos Pena had bated .204. However, those pitchers like Unit, Schilling and Pedro did not dominate; rather, there were numerous pitchers having strong seasons.

Maybe the overall rating for pitchers matters less than it does for hitters? Hmm... Perhaps a C pitcher is more equal to a C+ hitter... and so on.

And C+ is a good pitcher, for the draft! I'd take a C+ pitcher in a heart beat if I came across him in the draft. Now let me say this...I would not allow my pitcher to sit in the minors til he's 30. Once he's 24 or 25, he's gonna have to show me if he can pitch in the big leagues....if he's successful, then he stays...after he gets some chances, and he runs out of options, if he doesn't have it, then he has to go. This guy that keeps complaining about low rated pitching...I gotta say, if there were a formula that every team could draft and develope a pitcher to a A or B caliber pitcher, then there would be no demand on pitching...what you are witnessing is that ASB depicts the development and demand of good pitching very very nicely. There are teams that have been searching for pitching for decades...my Rangers for example. And the Prior comment...I like what the other user had to say....guys like Prior only come around every so often, you could probably only come up with 4 or 5 of those kinds of guys in the last decade....thats 30 teams for 10 years....300 different teams and only 4 or 5 great young (23 and younger aged) pitchers. I think that ASB does a great job of this.

            <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

but you dont understand.. their are ZERO great young pitchers..
maybe its just me on the PS2.. or someway i have it configured. i dont expect to turn every single guy i draft into a stud.. just one! one is all i want.

i agree that C pitchers are fantastic MUCH MUCH MUCH higher then i expected.. it just takes about 12 years for them to turn into anything!. they progress so slowly its very annoying.

i think the game does 1st basemen pretty well.. and 3rd basemen.. you can find defensive ones.. and offensive ones.. and great all around ones

but second basemen and shortstops are all fairly similar.. you will never develop a middle infiedlder to have any sort of power whatsoever.

maybe its just me.. but this is how every draft is
            5 b- corner outfieders
            1 b- 1b or 3b
            1-2 C+ middle infielders
            5 C pitchers

now i think those ratings are VERY VERY high.. just the players never develop.. the top prospects in the book every year are corner outfielders.. pitchers dont even make the top 50.. is that really realistic?

Hey Pol, you've simmed ahead 10 seasons. What're the statistical averages then compared to the first couple of seasons? i.e... what's it take to lead the league in ERA, K's...etc. I don't care so much about the ratings of the pitchers as long as it doesn't become a hitting dominated game later on.. as I fear it may.

You also have to remember where you are picking in the first round. If you are doing relatively well in the game, you may be drafting in the high teens or twenties in the first round. There is no way you will see a pitcher with a C+ or higher rating there. I have seen pitchers with B and B+ ratings in the draft, but I have never had a chance to draft them, and if you don't look back at the whole draft, after the draft, you never see them.

slytang, i draft around 5. i purposefully fielded a bad team so i can draft high. and i always check who gets drafted before my pick.. usually im the only one who picks a pitcher in the first round.

also.. the game seems very pitcher driven.. compared to last year.. last year offensive simmed numbers were off the charts.. this year its almost the opposite.. it seems like their is only a handful of players that hit 300
