Yes you can-

Go to the pitching lineup screen under the Manager menu. On the X-box you highlight the "role" column and then use the shoulder buttons to change jobs.

I'm unsure of which buttons do it on the PS2 (I have WSB for the Box), but you need to go to the screen where you adjust your pitching rotation. Highlight the category where it designates their role and their should be a button to change it.

I think so, I was trying also to demote a pitcher in the roster.

Try highlighting the title -ex. Setup pitcher, then press the A botton and see if it will let you move the title instead of the pitcher.

Or as I did, put the pitcher to a spot-ex. middle reliever, then exit and let the CPU automatically adjust the lineup.

And see if he stays a reliever or he returns to being a starter.

I've been fooling around with this also and sometimes the CPU restricts you from doing things manually.
