    Strange phenomenon (CPU vs. CPU)

I started an expansion franchise and have played a few games and also let the CPU play as both sides on occasion, if I have things to do. I have now played 9 games this way (CPU vs. CPU). In nine games, NO ONE has homered. For either team. Nine games, ZERO HR's. In addition, out of these 9 games, one team has been shut out in six of them. My expansion pitching staff has an ERA of under 1.50 for these games. Obviously something is "off" when both teams are set for CPU control. These stats are absurd as far as realism goes. I wonder what triggers this effect?
    NCAA: Michigan Wolverines
    MLB: St. Louis Cardinals
    NHL: St. Louis Blues
    NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
    EPL: Liverpool Reds

Re: Strange phenomenon (CPU vs. CPU)

I don't think its a cpu vs. cpu phenomenon. I think that I can count on my hands the number of times I have let up a hr by the CPU. Lesse, oh scott spiezio hit one, and dean palmer hit one. Thats it. And I'm 24 games into my season and I play on all-star.

The only thing I dislike about this game is that their is no challenge when pitching. I never fear that I am going to give up hr's, because I don't. 3 of my pitchers each have 2 complete game shutouts. All of my starters have era's under 3. The only way I do give uo runs is when I fool around and walk guys on purpose. There are way too many popups and absolutely no clutch hitting by the CPU. and no hr's. I almost liked last year better when the CPU would rally on you or hit hr's of you. This year: nothing. Sometimes I test and throw fastballs repeatedly down the middle of the plate, and still the cpu just pops up. They definitely could have made this game a bit more challenging from the pitching standpoint. There is no sense of having to work the count and be careful. The only time I have close games is when I can't hit either and there is a 0-0 or 1-1 tie going into the 9th. For once I just want to play a 9-9 game to make it more realisitic.

26 games into a new season, in manage only mode, and my pitching staff has only given up 11 homers, and my hitters have only hit 5.
While I love the game and the stats are good in every other category , the Home Runs end of the game under CPU control is whack.
My team hit 3 of those 5 in one game.
To further illustrate: I play as the Twins, and have a couple extra FA power hitters as well as have acquired Albert Puljos, who hasn't hit a dinger yet. He's an "A" power, with Power swing every pitch, every time he bats and no homers. This part of the game is sad.
My team is second only to the yankees in walks, and leads the league in strikeouts (too much trying to swing for the fences, swinging with Power swing whenever I can, especially when I have a good hitters pitch count, where the pitcher needs to toss a strike. Yet, so few homers. On the other hand, my team is 3rd in the league in Doubles... one small increase that offsets some of the Homer shortages.

Yes, the lack of homers gives an extra low ERA to your pitchers, doesn't it.

Just curious, are yo uplaying on Exaggerated pitching, or normal? The cpu seems to have more offense with normal, at least people have said that.

Interesting beastmaster, my rotatioin also only gave up about 13 homers in 23 games... most of them came in the first three games against the Yankees.

Re: Strange phenomenon (CPU vs. CPU)

I've tried exaggerated, and normal... changed the batting cursor (even though the CPU actually hits after the power/contact/etc choices)... all the variations that I've tried really make little difference.
Once in a while you see high scoring games with maybe a homer or two, but those are rare.
Even though I have seen 3 or 4 games in a row where over 15 runs, combined by both teams, but only a homer or two.

This is my 2nd time of running a first season... and i've played a the 15ish game preseason each time as well.
The stats and trends are always about the same. Streaky offense in games... either on or off, but then most games are pitching duals. And always, very few home runs.
Outside of the lack of home runs, I really love the play and stats.
