Sometimes they keep the pitchers in too long. The Giants were going for a complete game shutout with Schmidt and then in the bottom of the ninth Randall Simon hit a two run homer to tie it. He didn't have much stamina left. They just really wanted that shutout I guess.

I've noticed this too, and I love it when it happens. Sometimes in a blowout it seems they'll let the pitcher stay in and take his lumps rather than waste a reliever.Comment
