Pitching Theory (from "Huge Flaw" thread)

Hey everyone, I'm picking up MVP today for the PC, but maybe some of you could run a l ittle test for those of us without the game. First, try the pitching to middle of the plate method (see "HUGE FLAW" thread for more details) when you are ahead and see if the cpu scores runs. Then try when you are behind and see what happens. My theory is that the cpu will stop scoring when they get ahead. Second, have any of you been blownout by the cpu? Like by 5-10 runs? I was just wondering if MVP had a built-in mode where the games remain close so newbies don't get frustrated. Thanks!

I've been blown out a couple of times. Of course, I'm the Pirates, so I don't know how representative that is.....

Re: Pitching Theory (from \"Huge Flaw\" thread)

I gave up 5 HRs by the 7th inning in a game playing as the Pirates vs. the Phillies. Using Kris Benson, I gave up 2 solo shots in the first 4 innings trying for the K by throwing a high fastball. Benson was due to lead off the Pirate 7th, so in the 6th inning, I tried have him gut it out (fatigue was high). He had thrown a lot of pitches by trying to go for strikeouts, and he gave up 3 runs through 5. In the 6th, after getting the first guy out, he gave up HRs to 3 of the next 4 batters. His green area was really small, and that resulted in the big red dot. And when the CPU batter gets the big red dot, forget it. So based on that experience, if you try to pitch with a fair amount of fatigue, you will throw more mistake pitches (depending on the quality of the pitcher on the mound) which the computer doesn't miss.

I am assuming people don't keep their pitchers out there so long that the green area barely exists. If the green area is significant, you can hit your spots with great precision. If you do that in real life (see Greg Maddux) you won't give up a lot of homers or runs either. I will try turning off the strike zone and put on cursor fade to see what difference that makes.

I'm playing on allstar and as long as I hit the green just right, I place the pitches exactly where I want them and give up very very little home runs and hits. On allpro...same thing. I mean on pro the hits are much higher for both teams and the HRs are greater for me. So I play on Allstar and can live with not seeing a lot of home runs. Oh yea...I get strikeouts on allpro
