Striking out AI is a joke- Raise AI Batting Avg Slider?

I have found that extremely too easy to strike out the computer. With Mike Mussina, I have pitched about 15 games for the Yankees. I have used virtually all the different slider settings offered by people on this board and on others. With slight variation in each game, I average 10+ Ks per game. Many, many games I have had 17 or 18ks. This is simply way too many to make the game enjoyable. Also, as you stated, I did not have to work very hard to get the Ks. Simply, moving the pitches around and varying speeds was all that was required.

The only solution that I came up with was adjusting the AI batting average. Everyone has been adjusting the AI strikes and ball sliders. However, I never noticed a difference in the computers' ability to make contact. I did notice a difference when raising the battering average slider. Currently, mine is set at 50 or so. It is working out much better. Last night, I had one game where I worked HARD at striking out 6 batters. The second game, I struck out 10 in a complete game. However, it seemed like it required a bit more work to get to the 10k mark. Previously, I would have had 10ks by the third or fourth inning.

Anyone else notice that raising the batting average slider will reduce strikeouts. What settings do you recommend? What then should I set the AI strikes and ball settings to respectively.

    Thanks.

    three questions:
    1. did you pitch on MVP or HVP?
    2. how high was you're cpu batting eye (strikes) and cpu batting eye (balls)?
    3. how many hits do the cpu get now that you're cpu batting average is around 50?

Set the CPU Batting Average slider to at least 80 (mine's on 90).

Also, raising CPU Batting Eye-Balls slider higher than the CPU Batting-Strikes slider makes it a lot tougher to strikeout the CPU.

I now have the AI strikes and balls set to about 80 and 75 respectively. Combined with the AI batting avg slider set to 50, it has become more of a challenge to strike out the computer. As far as how many hits the computer gets, I would say around 7-10 hits a game. Mussina's ERA before adjusting the sliders in this fashion was under 2.00 and he was leading the league in innings pitched, Ks, wins, and ERA. Since moving batting avg. slider up higher, his ERA has been around 3.00; more reasonable. I also have tried using Med. Variable pitching and High variable pitching. I noticed that high made is more difficult to strike out, but also increased the number of hits the computer got off of me.

By raising CPU Batting Avg that high, don't you give up too many hits? Mine is at 20 and I still give up too many hits (around 10) with good pitchers. I never throw down the middle and will give up walks rather that give in. What kind of hit totals are you guys getting and what are your pitching strategies? The problem in a nutshell - too many batted balls result in hits. In real baseball, a pitcher will pitch a 6 hitter and strike out 3 or 4 sometimes. I don't see this hapening in WSB2K3. Could the answer be to RAISE CPU hitting and LOWER their batting eye sliders? Maybe this would result in them hitting more bad pitches, resulting in more putouts and less strikeouts. Just a theory...

Hmmm, chuckd23... your Batting Eye sliders seem high to me -- especially the Strikes one. Are you seeing the CPU frequently swinging at 1st pitches? That's what I noticed before lowering the BE-S slider a great deal.

                        Kruza,

How many hits on average do you allow?

I give up 7-13 hits on a typical game. More than 13 if I'm not pitching well, and less than 7 if I am.

The downside of having the CPU BA slider this high is that CPU-controlled batters rarely fouls off pitches; it likely hits the ball in play whenever it connects. However, I love the variety of hits I see with this slider set at 90, and I'll gladly sacrifice seeing more fouled off pitches to see more type of hits any day of the week.
