is it possible that the first base ump blew the call? I've had some "questionable" calls as well, most in this exact same situation (first baseman jumps for ball, comes down late, but runners' still out) but have chalked it up to a missed or poor call by the ump... it happens everyday in almost every game... just ask the '85 Cardinals about bad calls

Sure it is possible that the ump made a bad call, but those usually happen when the guy is on the bag, not clearly off of it. It is one thing if a guy is stretching to catch the throw, pulls his foot early and gets the call. It is another when the throw is high and the firstbaseman comes down far from the bag (a foot or further from the bag) and the runner is called out. That RARELY happens in real life and I watch a lot of baseball. I still love the game and it isn't like this has happened enough to even remotely bother me. Just something I have noticed.

I agree that most "bad" or "missed" calls are on bang-bang plays where the ump doesn't have the luxury of a slow motion replay... but, there have been some instances where a ump has been shielded or blocked by players and missed a call... and then there are the instances where the ump just blew the call, like when Kent Hrbek lifted, i believe it was Lonnie Smith (ah, good ol' "Skates"), off of first in the '91 World Series... now if I see that on WSB 2k3 I will be either upset or impressed

I think I am going to have to go with the Twins on this one. Did you even watch Sportcenter at all last year? Torii Hunter can almost play the outfield by himself. Defense is the reason the Twin won the Central last year.

Hell no! Royals all the way!

It always seems like they programmed the game so the CPU will catch up well in late innings, thgouh. That always seems to happen to me.
