I guess Longoria is the next Derek Jeter

I'm watching coverage of the game last night. We're hearing 2nd guessing of Madden & the Rays relievers. Exactly why is no one talking about Longoria's throwing error that allowed the game winning run to get in scoring position?

That was pretty big in my mind!!! I think Gross letting I think Pedroia's hit fall in front him was the beginning of the end. It looked like he could have had the catch if he was a little bit more aggressive but i think he was playing it safe and didnt want to let him get an extra base hit. That play, in my mind, was the turning point.

Im hoping for the Rays to regroup and play some good ball on Saturday. I also hope that the Sox get a little bit too confident and just loose already.

I thought you were going to say "Bill Buckner," and I would instantly come in here to disagree because there were many more things that led to the Red Sox victory than just this... however I personally scored this an error in my book. I know they gave the error to him for Youk getting to second, but I don't think it was a single. By definition, it is all about the ability to make the play with ordinary effort. The gloving was clean and astounding, but he had time to set his feet and make the throw to get him out. I think the routineness (word?) of the play was there, he just didn't utilize it properly.

I'm sure it will be talked about more and more if the Red Sox go on to win this series. Otherwise, his error will simply be overshadowed by his offensive numbers he's put up thus far.

Because it was the relievers and Maddon who blew the 7 run lead, not Longoria. Sure it was a poor throw, but it would have never gotten to that point if Maddon had put in Howell, Price, or even Shields in the 8th to close out the game.

I was shocked that during the highlight (the one that I saw anyway) of this game they didn't even mention it. Sure this lies mainly on the bullpen's shoulders, but making that play could've potentially saved the game.

Exactly. He had plenty of time to make the play. That should have been a 1-2-3 inning. Imagine if A-Rod had made that throw? They would have spent an hour on that play.

This is why I became less & less a MLB fan. The coverage of it is so biased. They pick & choose who to like. Its not like Evan should be made a goat. But to completely ignore it? Come on. That's journalism I expect from Air America or FOXNews.

That's why I usually watch with the sound off. Thanks to the internet et al, the average sports fan is much more savvy and informed than ever before, but the majority of announcers and writers are the same ol' hacks of yesteryear.

I think he's not the next Derek Jeter but more the first Longoria.

Not quite. He's the second Longoria.

But then you miss out on McCarver gems such as "on average, a team scores more runs in an inning with a lead off homerun than a leadoff walk"
