Yes, the DH is much-maligned in general, as people have been bashing the AL for playing inferior ball because of this very rule. It was originally put in place to make baseball more exciting and high-scoring, sort of like the 3-point shot in baseketball. The Player's Association loves it because it creates an extra roster spot and it lets guys who can't really field anymore still rack up batting numbers.

All-in-all, the interleague and World Series games tend to give the National League an automatic advantage, they as obviously have no problems using the DH because it's really a no-brainer, but the AL pitchers don't hit all season long and the NL pitchers do, so they're more used to it.

Many baseball purists hate the DH and there's been talk of getting rid of it pretty much as soon as it was instituted. But who knows, maybe it'll be around forever.

        More on the DH

I feel this is a good time to bring this topic up again now that SI has posted a few feature articles about the DH on their website yesterday. This is a good read which goes into detail on issues that Anaxamander was pointing out before.

Also, be sure to check out the related links far below in this article.

lol...i thought I mentioned this somewhere else, but I'm just getting into baseball now. I never purchased a bball game unti lthis year because I love the history aspect of baseball more than any other sport. I do like video games so obviously it made sense to buy WSB2K3. I'm not a SEGA fanboy by my username, but if you want you can say i'm a WSB fanboy because I personally "feel" (and feel is the key word, not "know" since I didn't play the other games) that it is the best game out in the market after reading the reviews. I think I would have got HH 2K4 if it weren't for WSB 2k3. ANyways, I'm getting off topic...I did a lot of research and work because I didn't know Bball to well, and especially with my settings I wanted to have great simulation in this game. So I didn't know that the average runs per game were around 4-6 until I looked it up...therefore, if I scored 10 per game I would adjust my settings accordingly.

Well that's a long answer for a very short question...have a nice weekend.
